Texas death row inmate awaits final judgement

By Chantal Valery (AFP)

POLUNSKY UNIT, Texas — Hank Skinner escaped execution in 2010 by only 20 minutes after a dramatic 11th-hour reprieve. He now regards this as a miracle.

The 51-year-old, who was convicted in 1995 of the brutal triple murder of his girlfriend, Twila Busby, and her two adult sons, has protested his innocence for years, despite DNA evidence against him.

Haunted by the possibility of execution, the wait has taken a mental toll, says Skinner, who admits that in one sense, death may come as a relief.

The oxygen trade: Leaving Hondurans gasping for air

June 18, 2013

“We’re not selling this oxygen to anybody,” said Vitalino Álvarez, a participant in the Unified Aguán Farmers´ Movement (MUCA) in the boiling hot northern region of Honduras. Like many places around Honduras and the world, Álvarez’s community is a direct victim of international carbon trading programs—or what residents call “selling oxygen.”

"This system has made it much harder for us to share and care for each other" - After 6 years of NT intervention

By Barbara Shaw - Six years ago my family watched the TV in my living room as John Howard announced he would be sending in the military and taking control of our communities.

I have never been more frightened in my life. I locked the gate of my town camp and kept the kids inside for two weeks for fear of them being taken. I worried constantly about my family out bush who didn't understand what was coming.

'We always look for the river' says Aunty Jeanie. She's sitting by the banks of the Murrumbidgee. It's flowing swollen after spring rains. Sun sparkles off the murky water and through the drooping red gum leaves. Aunty Jeanie is a Mutthi Mutthi woman. Her family is part of this place. 'This is my mother's country,' she says, 'and her mothers and…,' she thinks for a moment, 'it goes right back.'

Rael: “It's time for a world revolution!”

LAS VEGAS, June 20 - Noting the large peaceful demonstrations taking place in major Brazilian cities, Rael, spiritual leader of the International Raelian Movement (IRM), is calling for more such protests to be held worldwide.

“It's time for a world revolution,” he declared in a statement released today by the IRM. “Not a revolution to replace the governments, but a revolution to replace the whole system!"

For Rael, who is also the founder of Paradism and the author of “Geniocracy," there is no need to launch a revolution to replace politicians currently in power.

But the media is full of raping murdering parolees again.

Aboriginal lead group aims to reduce Indigenous suicide rates

More than one in 25 Aboriginal people die from suicide. That’s more than triple the rate of non-Aboriginal suicide deaths.
The federal government has just launched an initiative to try to reduce suicide rates in Indigenous communities.
The Aboriginal Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Advisory Group is to provide the government with advice, and drive reform, to improve mental health, but some are worried the government funding and support won't reach the people who need it most.
