Aboriginal lead group aims to reduce Indigenous suicide rates

More than one in 25 Aboriginal people die from suicide. That’s more than triple the rate of non-Aboriginal suicide deaths.
The federal government has just launched an initiative to try to reduce suicide rates in Indigenous communities.
The Aboriginal Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Advisory Group is to provide the government with advice, and drive reform, to improve mental health, but some are worried the government funding and support won't reach the people who need it most.
In this report we’ll hear from Lisa Briggs, CEO of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, and Robert Eggington, Aboriginal spokesperson at the Dumbartung Aboriginal Corporation in Western Australia. The report by Emmie Dowling was offered to 270 community radios urs on The Wire. You can access their stories at www.thewire.org.au.
