Environmentalists: Fuel emission reduction policy well behind world's best practice

Policy Plans released by Julia Gillard and her Climate Change Minister Penny Wong for mandatory fuel efficiency standards and a $2000 rebate for trading in pre-1995 cars for new fuel efficient vehicles, were cautiously welcomed by environmentalists while being criticised for not going far enough and being funded by cuts to other climate change action programs such as Carbon Capture and Storage and solar energy. "Under this plan, Australia's fuel efficiency standards for new vehicles will be about a quarter of a century behind China's when they are eventually law. We must make our cars cleaner quicker." said Don Henry, Australian Conservation Foundation executive director.

We’re doing our bit on climate change. It's time to make our political leaders do theirs. This election join a Walk near you and help us convince our political leaders to: Walk with the people. Not the Big Polluters.

While our political leaders have been squabbling, the rest of us have been getting on with the business of dealing with climate change.

We're going green and clean. We're reducing our greenhouse pollution and recycling our waste. We're saving water and energy, and buying greenpower. And we're forming climate action groups - all across the country.

Climate activists protest Julia Gillard over ALP climate change policy

ALP policy on climate change action has been strongly criticised by environment and climate action groups with protests at Julia Gillard's climate change policy launch in Brisbane, and protests at Julia Gillard's Werribee electoral office and her Melbourne Treasury Place office.

Climate activists lock on at Gillard's office to protest pathetic ALP policy

In a spontaneous response to Julia Gillard's pathetic climate policy announcement yesterday morning, Shaun Murray and Carey Priest from the Switch Off Hazelwood Collective locked themselves to the door of her electoral office in Werribee. After initially scoping out the office and purchasing 'D'-locks from the local bike shop, the pair returned shortly afterwards at approximately 2:55pm yesterday and locked themselves by the neck to the door.

Genocide of Aborigines since invasion, international conference told

Melbourne, 13 July 2010 - - An Aboriginal leader has told about 500 international psychologists and psychiatrists meeting here that Australia has perpetrated genocide on Aboriginal people since the white invasion and continues to do so.

Michael Anderson, leader of the 3,000 Euahlayi, whose lands straddle the border between northwest New South Wales and southwest Queensland, made the accusation to a genocide section of the 27th conference of the International Association of Applied Psychology, running from 12 to 16 July in the Melbourne Convention Centre.

Australia 'a crime scene' and 'undeclared war zone' since white invasion

Australia remains an 'undeclared war zone' and has been 'one big hell of a crime scene' since the white invasion and needs a treaty between the colonisers and the Aborigines, a recent Aboriginal summit in Melbourne heard. Robbie Thorpe, committed activist on issues relating to Australian history, Indigenous sovereignty, lack of treaty, land-rights justice, genocide and national denial made the allegation.

"People have known that but don't want to recognise it. They don't want to recognise our humanity...they can't afford to...it'd bankrupt them totally and utterly."
