Allegations of paedophilia hit country town - what to do

Gerry Georgatos
Last week the Donnybrook-Bridgetown Mail reported that on Good Friday, Bridgetown was plastered with graffiti alleging one of the town's most prominent citizens is a paedophile.

'Warning to Parents' was painted in large letters and then alleged a noteworthy individual in a position of trust was a paedophile.

The Donnybrook-Bridgetown Mail received calls from three individuals about the graffiti. One photo of the graffiti and the accusations, smack right across Coronation Street, was forwarded by a Bridgetown resident to the Donnybrook-Bridgetown Mail.

Some countries trying to undermine Indigenous rights at international conference

By Les Malezer

It is not surprising that some States are looking to avoid reference to
'Indigenous Peoples' in the outcome document being drafted for the
forthcoming Rio +20 conference (to be held in June 2012). Apparently
France, with the support of USA, New Zealand and Canada, has very recently
proposed a change to the older terminology (from original Rio conference in
1992) of "indigenous and local communities".

This earlier reference fails to recognise that Indigenous Peoples have the
same status as "peoples" in international law. Only peoples have the right

Gareth Evans – An apologist for genocide

Australia’s former Foreign Affairs minister Gareth Evans was shocked and surprised at having his appalling historical record brought back into the light. But what is amazing, is that it is so rarely mentioned.
A couple of weeks ago Evans was accused of “supporting atrocities” in East Timor when he was foreign affairs minister.

The accusation came from Stephen Zunes, Professor of Politics at the University of San Francisco.

He was visiting Melbourne and called a spade a spade during a public forum with poor Gareth in attendance.

Tell Lindt and Ferrero to stamp out child slave labour and introduce ethical chocolate

Children as young as seven are enduring 16-hour days and beatings to produce the cocoa that major companies use to make chocolate. And only days before Easter, these companies are desperately competing with each other to maximise profits.

It’s their most lucrative holiday period -- but their profits will come from modern day child slavery. And while every other major chocolate company has already taken steps to ensure their cocoa isn’t harvested by children, Lindt and Ferrero continue to put massive profits ahead of basic child welfare.
