Gareth Evans – An apologist for genocide

Australia’s former Foreign Affairs minister Gareth Evans was shocked and surprised at having his appalling historical record brought back into the light. But what is amazing, is that it is so rarely mentioned.
A couple of weeks ago Evans was accused of “supporting atrocities” in East Timor when he was foreign affairs minister.

The accusation came from Stephen Zunes, Professor of Politics at the University of San Francisco.

He was visiting Melbourne and called a spade a spade during a public forum with poor Gareth in attendance.

The ALP must breed a Petro Georgiou

I was sharing a coffee with Simon Mead, Secretary of the WA State Labor Party on the morning of the day that Kevin Rudd would enjoy his last full day as Prime Minister when I put to him a question that Simon would laugh off. Earlier that morning a trusted insider in the ALP told me that Kevin Rudd would be deposed as Prime Minister by the evening's end and that if he did not go quietly there would be a spill/vote the next morning. Though Simon and I met for other yarns I did put this to him in passing.

East Timor stands up to Oz bullying over Timor gas

It was reported in the The Age today that Timor Leste was prepared to stand up to the combined bullying of the Australian company Woodside and the Australian Government and leave gas in the ground “for generations” under the Timor Seaif necessary until Timor could get a fair deal over where the gas is processed.
