Human Rights Alliance media release: Chaos at Christmas Island detention, raids. Suicide threats

The Human Rights Alliance have filed submissions and calls to the UNITED NATIONS and to UN Special Investigators and Rapporteurs to call upon the Australian Government to allow for UN OBSERVERS to be stationed at Christmas Island Detention Centre, and at Darwin, Villawood and Scherger Detention Centres.

The Human Rights Alliance have filed complaints and reports to the UNITED NATIONS seeking an urgent investigation of the Christmas Island protests and the police raids and use of tear gas.

Chaos, protests, police brutality has sieged Christmas Island Detention Centre.

UN Observers need to be stationed at all Australian Detention Centres. Asylum Seekers punished at Christmas Island.

Overnight the Christmas Island Detention Centre roof protest escalated with the response a severe lockdown. Christmas Island Detention Centre is now as bad as Woomera and Baxter. UN Observers must be located in these unlawful Detention Centres.

The Christmas Island roof top protest unnecessarily escalated and once again there was no appropriate de-escalation, mitigation or humanity.

Saving Warrup Forest

The Western Australian Forest Alliance will work with Bridgetown-Greenbushes Friends of the Forest to oppose prospective logging of Warrup forest, which is located in the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes, in the south west of Western Australia. Perth celebrates the end of Mubarak

On February 13rh, after 18 days of unrest, local Egyptians from Western Australia joined others worldwide who have long opposed President Hosni Mubarak. There was drumming, dancing, singing and lots of sweet treats. It was a wonderful atmosphere filled with joy and laughter. Game over, Mubarak.
