Biggest ever environmental rally in Malaysia - Against Australian company Lynas Pty Ltd

Australia’s Lynas Rare Earth Plant made history in Malaysia today when a nationwide rally to stop the project occurred. An estimated 20,000 citizens together with Malaysian civil society organisations converged in Kuantan for a rally to protest against the Lynas project and to demand for a clean and safe future for Malaysia. The Stop Lynas campaign has escalated into the biggest ever environmental issue for the country. Participants arrived from all over the country including the east Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak.

Barnett kills numbats

The Forest Products Commission are currently attempting to decimate the largest intact numbat colony in our state at Warrup forest. There are more pandas in the wild in China (1600) than numbats in Western Australia (under 1000), and the numbat is our state fauna emblem.
"It is disgusting in this day and age that the Barnett government have scant disregard for our state emblem, which is on the brink of extinction. How will we explain to future generations that we stood idly by while the FPC destroyed the last major colony of numbats." - Forest Rescue spokesperson Simon Peterffy.

My hat goes off to those organising DIY events around Melbourne

Recently I read an article on Indymedia that was a review on a DIY bridge gig held in North Melbourne. I have decided to write this follow-up article looking at a few of the DIY gigs that have been happening around Melbourne at the moment. Especially in the punk scene lot of the DIY of movement has been growing somewhat stale compared to what it has been in previous days.

I consider an ethical, ‘bottom-up’ approach to human rights and development, emphasizing small/medium business development, would enable Christchurch to make the most of its opportunities (And I also think this should be extended to the rest of the country and the world).

I believe this approach will eventually replace neo liberalism.

The world takes action for Tasmania's forests

An incredible show of world wide support saw over 70 actions across 14 countries in 24 hours calling for an end to the destruction of Tasmania's forests.

People gathered to hold banners in snow filled streets, images of the forest were projected onto town buildings, handmade signs were held up in backyards, some stood as silent statues dressed in green, while some took the action to their local area of forest destruction in solidarity and others asked passers-by to 'have a heart for Tassie's forests.'
