There was no debate between the ALP and Liberals who are both committed to the indefinite colonial occupation of Afghanistan by the U.S. and its western allies. The PM's speech was briefly interrupted by anti-war activist Marlene Obeid who labeled Gillard a "war criminal" as she was ejected from the public gallery.

Study predicts extreme drought conditions worsening globally with climate change

Extreme Drought and aridity is likely to increase within decades across much of Africa, Australia, North and South America, South west Asia, and around the Mediterranean Sea according to a new study by National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) scientist Aiguo Dai.

Earlier research published in 2005 by Aiguo Dai and scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in the USA found that Global Warming is a major factor in Drought increasing globally.

Veterans group says hidden casualties must be considered in war debate.

On Tuesday, 19th October the Australian Parliament will debate Australian military involvement in the war and occupation of Afghanistan. Stand Fast, a group of veterans and former military personnel opposed to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is calling on the debate to openly consider and recognise the hidden casualties of this war and the long term cost this has on communities.
