Egypt: Anger Day rally Melbourne 30 Jan 2011

A demonstration organized by the Egyptian Solidarity Group took place in Melbourne at the Egyptian Consular General Offices in Market Street Melbourne on the 30th January 2011. Approximately 200 Supporters of the Egyptian Community gathered in opposition to the existing Government regime in Egypt. Their message was clear with the demonstrators chanting “OUT OUT MUBARAK OUT”.

People again gathered in Melbourne to show their support for Wikileaks. The rally commenced at the Melbourne State Library with a variety of speakers including Adam Bandt (Greens Federal MP), Rob Stary( Assange's Lawyer in Australia) and Brian Boyd (Secretary Victorian Trades Hall).

Support the Climate Camp arrestees!

International activists challenge corporate crimes in Melbourne

From 12th to 14th November, international activists will converge at Trades Hall in Melbourne to call for an end to the power of huge companies to exploit people and our planet.

“We will be building alliances and global resistance against the actions of Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, Fonterra, Chiquita Brands International, Monsanto, Drummond, BP” said Rebecca Harrison from the Latin American Solidarity Network. “To protect the rights of workers, indigenous peoples and the environment we need to hold corporations accountable for their exploitative practices,” added Ms Harrison.

Solidarity actions with the Villawood detainees

This is one reportback about a series of actions that took place in various parts of Sydney today in solidarity with the detainees at Villawood detention center - who were occupying the roof there in an act of defiance at their own incarceration and out of respect for Josefa Rauluni who had committed suicide there yesterday morning.

We support the Darwin breakout!

Yesterday people gathered at Central Station Tunnel to show solidarity with the courageous protest of 92 detainees who broke out of Darwin Detention Centre on Wednesday. The snap-action response in Sydney, called by the Anti-Deportation Alliance (ADA) focused on encouraging people to take actions to force the Federal Government to close the detention centres, and inviting people to join the Refugee Action Coalition protest today, Friday 3rd of September.
