Tell me lies... Pinocchio joins campaign against Tassie forest destruction

Bryan Green got a surprise this morning - the Deputy Premier of Tasmania was fresh off the plane from his much vaunted trade mission to China and Japan, selling out Tasmania's forests, and he was confronted with a huge walking, talking Pinocchio. The Last Stand crew got together with the Huon Valley Environment Centre and Code Green to give him a warm welcome back to Oz.

Barnett kills numbats

The Forest Products Commission are currently attempting to decimate the largest intact numbat colony in our state at Warrup forest. There are more pandas in the wild in China (1600) than numbats in Western Australia (under 1000), and the numbat is our state fauna emblem.
"It is disgusting in this day and age that the Barnett government have scant disregard for our state emblem, which is on the brink of extinction. How will we explain to future generations that we stood idly by while the FPC destroyed the last major colony of numbats." - Forest Rescue spokesperson Simon Peterffy.

The NSW government has no mandate for uranium mining in NSW. This issue was not raised at the election and, until recently, Premier O'Farrell maintained that government had 'no plans' to overturn the ban.

Fracking - The Rest of the Story

As shale gas (or coal gas) fracking envelops Australia and the world - pay attention to the repression of information and victims in the United States.

This is a full program about the risks of fracking, with voices seldom heard. It's also about the failure of the US Environmental Protection Agency to regulate this industry (although it's hands were tied by Pres Geo Bush's exemption for the industry from the Safe Water Drinking Act).

Forever Planting (for Peak Oil & Climate Change)

We depend utterly on fossil fuels, especially to grow our food. From natural gas comes the millions of tons of fertilizers. Oil provides herbicides and pesticides. All is planted and harvested with oil power, driven, shipped or flown to your table.

For now. Until fossil fuels become too expensive, too rare, too polluting to use. We only have a short time to find other ways.

The Brutal Logic of Climate Change

http://bit.ly/wulkTw "The future is impossible" says Dr. Kevin Anderson, former Director of UK's top climate research institute, the Tyndall Centre. Speech in London lays out our awful tilt toward an unlivable climate. Followed by discussion with Washington's Dr. William Calvin.

Are you ready for the bad news about climate change? Really?

I'm going to play you a speech too awful to run during the holidays.

END:CIV director Franklin López to tour Australia.

END:CIV illustrates the brutality of a civilization addicted to
systematic violence and environmental destruction, and the heroism of
those who confront it head-on.

As Australia is beginning to experience more frequent environmental
crises resulting from climate change and a history of poor environmental
management this film will be instrumental in bringing awareness of the
need to confront the system which allows this destruction to continue.

López’s will answer questions from the audience and lead a discussion
