Cairns abortion case trial date set: Pro-choice supporters plan national protest

Pro-choice supporters are gearing up for a national day of protest on the Saturday before the Cairns abortion case goes to trial. The trial has been set down for October 12. Rallies will be held across the country on October 9 to demand the dropping of the charges brought under Queensland’s anti-abortion laws against a couple in Cairns.

“When a woman and her partner are facing trial under the abortion laws, it is time to take action”, said Pro-Choice Action Collective activist, Kathy Newnam.

"Get A Good Feed and Smash Capitalism"

The Cairns Radical Media Collective presents a movie night exploring the foundations of the cruel capitalist system of slavery and how we can begin to build a more decent world, beginning with the four part documentary "The Century of Self". Each night will begin with a good vegetarian meal and we will also be showing various other films and snippets and discussion exploring the questions of how we can take action to improve the situation around us.

Internet censorship laws play right into the hands of Murdoch

Murdoch beleives people should be paying for news on the internet. For some time now the profit margins that he built his news empire upon, the newspapers, have been declining. With independant news sites freely available, where individuals can express there views or campaign for their own platform, it seems the only chance for murdoch would be if the government were to implement new media laws.

The truth (news) can no longer be spoon fed, force fed, or under fed.
