Bob Carr ignoring human rights abuses in Sri Lanka

Why does the Foreign minister continually try to play down blatant abuses in Sri Lanka?

Is it related to the Gillard government's contoversial policy on Sri Lankan asylum seekers.

Why does Foreign Minister Bob Carr keep making excuses for the government of Sri Lanka?

There is strong evidence from credible organisations that serious human rights abuses are continuing in Sri Lanka, despite the “end of the civil war”.

But every time Bob Carr is asked about the situation there he pretends there are no problems and says things are improving.

Why Hillary Clinton is In favor of DynCorp

The above title does not mean I understand her reasons for supporting DynCorp. In fact, it could just as easily be reworded to reflect a question I myself have regarding the strange reluctance of the State Department to act regarding a corporation that has participated in some of the most deplorable acts a corporation could – and we are talking big wealthy corporations here. Except, they do obviously favor the company in question, and support them.

War on drugs breaches separation of powers

If you are on the jury in a drug trial, and if you are told that the defendant must prove that he/she knew nothing about the drugs, it is your civic duty to put the onus of proof back where it belongs (on the prosecution), raise it to the proper standard (beyond reasonable doubt), and reach a verdict accordingly.

West Papua's Prisoners of Conscience

A new website and campaign has been launched to highlight Indonesia’s appalling record of jailing peaceful activists.

 www.papuansbehindbars.org

The website is intended to support advocacy for the rights of the political prisoners who are currently languishing in jails across West Papua.

There are at least 40 political detainees being held in Papuan jails. Many have been subjected to torture, denied access to lawyers, and suffered all manner of other human rights violations.

National Democratic Front of the Philippines denies NPA uses child soldiers

National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) spokesperson Fidel V. Agcaoili denied that the New People’s Army (NPA) use child soldiers to fight for their cause.

In a letter sent to ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau head Danny Buenafe, he reiterated that the claims in the news article ‘PH rebels use child soldiers,' a report based on an international conference in Helsinki, Finland last March 9, led by the newly appointed Secretary General of Child Soldiers International, Richard Clarke, are unsubstantiated.

Open letter: whose university is University of Sydney?

Open letter: whose university is University of Sydney?

Hi.

I am one of the community members arrested at the first day of the 48 hours strike of the University of Sydney workers. I am now indefinitely banned by a university board from the university, after closely filming the assaults against my friends and others in the community who participated in the strike, and being arrested and assaulted myself by police. This is not an allegation, it is a truth.

The questions I want to ask are:
