For the Harmony Walk- Please Meet at the Refugee Welcome Fiesta at the Fremantle Esplanade at 1.00 pm. We will then walk through Fremantle together before returning to the Esplanade at 1.20 pm.

In the final stages of the conflict in the Northern Sri Lanka, the Government of Sri Lanka encouraged hundreds of thousands of Tamil civilians to gather in “No Fire Zones”, where they said they would be safe. Government forces then subjected these zones to sustained shelling. Food queues, hospitals & aid convoys were all attacked by the Sri Lankan military & Government Officials denied adequate supplies of food & medicine to the trapped civilians.

Bob Carr on West Papua

Foreign minister Bob Carr has been directly challenged in a public hearing over his weak position on the human rights crisis in West Papua.

Greens Senator Richard Di Natale clashed with Carr during a Senates Estimates committee hearing.

Carr tried to blame The Greens and Australian human rights activists for inciting "false hope" that West Papua might one day achieve independence from Indonesia.

In response Senator Di Natalie called Mr Carr's view "incredibly patronising and incredibly arrogant".

Slaughter of proletarians in Bangladesh: Capitalism is the assassin!

On April 24 "Rana Plaza" a 9-storey building in an industrial suburb of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh (14 million), collapsed on about 3,500 workers (their number is not known precisely) working there. The building contained five textile factories, as well as a bank and many shops. The official present death toll is 1128, the number of injured is unknown. Most of the victims are women, who constitute 80 to 90% of the workforce in the Bangladeshi textile industry.

Three farmers of Dos Bocas community in Santa Rosa de Aguan: Wilfredo Cartagena Castillo (28), Edwin Geovanni Rivera Castillo (18) and Wilmer Rivera Castillo (15) were murdered by hitmen in their own home on 3/4/13.

Also at Dos Bocas, hitmen murdered farmers’ leader Alfronzo Vasquez Bonilla in his home on 21/4/13.

Rael awards Stephen Hawking 'Honorary Guide' title

LAS VEGAS, May 10 - After Professor Stephen Hawking recently decided to withdraw from the Israeli President's Conference, Rael, leader and founder of the International Raelian Movement (IRM), decided to award him the title "Honorary Guide of Humanity."

Hawking reportedly withdrew from the conference to support an academic boycott against Israel that is being enacted to protest that nation's occupation of Palestine.

"Here is one of the greatest minds on Earth, showing the way for all to follow," Rael said of Hawking, in a statement released today by the IRM.
