Youtube censors Greenpeace parody video at food giant Nestlé's behest

Nestlé, the world's leading food and drinks company, has had Greenpeace's new video removed from YouTube on copyright grounds. The video is a response to Nestlé sourcing palm oil from companies involved in the destruction of rainforests and peatlands in Indonesia. Palm oil is used in many popular Nestlé brands. The destruction of rainforest and peatlands for palm oil plantations releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere making Indonesia one of the highest emitters of CO2 and contributing to global warming.

Internet censorship laws play right into the hands of Murdoch

Murdoch beleives people should be paying for news on the internet. For some time now the profit margins that he built his news empire upon, the newspapers, have been declining. With independant news sites freely available, where individuals can express there views or campaign for their own platform, it seems the only chance for murdoch would be if the government were to implement new media laws.

The truth (news) can no longer be spoon fed, force fed, or under fed.

Al Jazeera West Papua documentary Censored

Melbourne film-makers documentary ‘Pride of Warriors’ was scheduled to screen on Al Jazeera English channel last night at 6:30pm. In cooperation with the 3rd largest English television broadcasters, the film had been made to uncover secret human rights abuses in the Indonesian Province of West Papua. It appears that the channel bowed to pressure from the Indonesian Government and removed the documentary hours before it was due to be aired.

Censorship and self-censorship

My latest blog rant approaches the issue of censorship and why we need resources like Indymedia. It was inspired by the latest of many attempts by mining companies and their cronies to silence my reporting on community radio 4ZzZ102.1fm in Brisbane. I've self-censored names to protect the innocent.
