Politicians Fuels Racism - Are You “Mainstream” Australians?

Racism is a die hard issue in Australia. While the racism against Indians across the country over the last two years has yet to show any sign of winging down,  the new opposition leader Tony Abbott begin the 2010 election year with Howard’s style racism on the issue of Immigration.

Imagine you are sane . You share the same stresses as anybody in the community...possible more because you have 2 children with types of Autism as do other members of your family but beyond this you are mentally well and have a high IQ. Now picture this strange and insane scenario. The Principal of a school decides you are insane and that your parenting is responsible for your children's Autism. Now imagine being held responsible for behaviours that are typical of a child with Aspergers.

Saying No to the "Indonesian Solution" - Rally at State Library 18 January 2010

Melbourne's Tamil community and supporters joined others around Australia and the world in a day of action on 18 January to highlight the plight of 254 Tamil asylum seekers who have now spent 100 days on a boat in Merak, Indonesia, following the Australian Prime Minister's request to the Indonesian President to have the vessel intercepted in Indonesian waters to prevent it from reaching Australia.

Solidarity Action For Kulon Progo Farmers - 11 January 2010

In response to a call from the Kulon Progo farmers for support from Melburnians (see calendar item), the Melbourne Anarchist Club (MAC) organised a protest outside the Indonesian Consulate in Melbourne this morning. Called at short notice and falling on a day when temperatures were forecast to exceed 45 degrees, the gathering was not surprisingly small(about ten in all), but made its point.

Climate Vandals - Alt. Country for Alt. Energy

On monday morning activists disrupted business as usual at the offices of International Power - the well known climate vandals responsible for the filthy Hazelwood coal power station, by reclaiming the swish foyer of the Rialto building, playing country music and distributing flyers. The action coincides with the UN climate talks this week in Copenhagen, where the world is watching and waiting to see if our leaders can agree on any practical solutions to climate change.

Australian presence in Gaza freedom March

Canterbury-Bankstown Peace Group member, Marlene Obeid, will be traveling on Christmas Eve to the Middle East to join a peace convergence - the Gaza Freedom March.

Ms Obeid and another 13 Australians will be part of a contingent of approximately 1,000 peace activists who have signed up to take part in this world event called in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to put an end to the Israeli blockade of Gaza.
