Substantive charges against Max Brenner protesters dropped

The substantive charges against the Max Brenner 19 (besetting and trespass in a public place) have been dismissed this morning in court. 5 defendants are however still in court fighting specific charges of resist arrest and assault police.

The decision on the substantive charges is nonetheless a big win for our right to protest in public places in Melbourne. We have beaten back their attempts to criminalize dissent and their attempts to silence a public pro-Palestine voice in Australia.

Palestine solidarity on trial

For three weeks in May, the right to peacefully protest will be on trial in Melbourne.

ON 1 MAY, 19 Melbourne activists will be put on trial for their political activity. In a precedent setting case, these pro-Palestine activists will be fighting a variety of charges designed to criminalise dissent in Baillieu’s Victoria and intimidate supporters of Palestine in Australia.

Don't be another brick in Israel's wall - International week against the wall 2011(Melbourne)

On November 12, as part of the 9th annual international week against the apartheid wall, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in Melbourne took to the streets to raise awareness about Israel's occupation and apartheid policies.

In November 2000 Israel approved the first project to build a so-alled "security barrier" -- a 8 metre high wall (twice the height of the Berlin Wall), with watch towers, electric fences, concrete walls, trenches, sensors and military patrols.

Zionist and fascists mobilise to support Max Brenner and Israel

See email below from Melbourne. Please spread the word about the next Boycott Max Brenner rally. It appears the fascists will be joining the Zionists to support Israel in opposition to the next Boycott Max Brenner protest. And they try to smear supporters of Palestine as "anti-Semites" while linking arms with the genuine article!!!

Support the Boycott Israel 19

I would like to request all who are able to sign the statement of support for the 'Boycott Israel 19' defense campaign. On the 1st of July, 19 activists including myself were arrested by police in a clear attempt to stop effective political activism in support of Palestinian rights. The campaign has been growing as part of the global movement of Boycott, Divestment and Sanction against Israel and it's continuing violation of human rights. The rally on July 1, is a continuation of regular rallies around Melbourne Central and QV where Max Brenner operates. Max Brenner has been a target of this campaign because of it's proud support of the Israeli Defense Force, providing "care packages" to the military and particularly key brigades who were instrumental in the assault on Gaza of 2008/2009. NSW police break up Palestinian solidarity protest outside Max Brenner in Parramatta

A group of students gathered outside of one of Max Brenner's franchise cafes in Sydney in protest at its support for the Israeli army. The protest is part of the global Boycott Divestment and Sanctions, or BDS campaign, which was called from a broad cross-section of Palestinian civil society organisations in 2005.

Max Brenner is a chocolate retailer owned by the Strauss Group, which is the second largest Israeli food and beverage company and is largely touted as one of the greatest successes of Israeli industry.
