In response to the ACF media release “Population boom will bust environment and quality of life” (22 September 2009):

The opinion presented is overly simplistic and inherently flawed as several of the implicit assumptions cannot be backed up by robust arguments. Exposing the nationalist agenda of this statement is in the interests of fairness in informing a free-thinking, democratic society. A nationalistic perspective on climate change is inconsistent with the inexorably global nature and scale of the manifold impacts of a modified climate.

Win in Nigeria - Shell pays out

Oil giant Shell has agreed to payout $15.5 million to nine families of murdered environmental and human rights activist in Nigeria instead of going to court. Shell said they would pay for a “Humanitarian gesture”, and that they don’t have anything to hide. The director of Remember Saro-Wiwa said "No company, that is innocent of any involvement with the Nigeria military and human rights abuses, would settle out of court for 15.5 million dollars. It clearly shows that they have something to hide".

ALP approves new uranium mine

The Federal ALP government announced the establishment of a fourth uranium mine in Australia, following through on its 2007 decision to abandon the "3 mines" policy which it adopted in the 1980's. The Four Mile mine, 550 kilometres north of Adelaide, will open next year after winning clearance from federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett. Four Mile will be Australia's first new uranium mine in close to a decade and the 10th biggest in the world. Its predicted annual production of about 1400 tonnes, it will boost national output by 13 per cent to 12,100 tonnes.

Australian complicity in the U.S. war on the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan includes the present deployment of 600 Australian (SAS, Special Ops and infantry) troops in Afghanistan, detention in Australia of Afghani refugees fleeing the war and daily targeting information for U.S. bombardment coming from the U.S. N.S.A Pine Gap near outback Alice Springs.
