Sunday September 13, 2009 people from across Victoria, and Australia, will come together for a day of peaceful community mass civil disobedience and walk on to Switch off Hazelwood and Switch of Coal - taking action for renewable energy.

Switch off Hazelwood. Switch off Coal is a day of fun, creative, inspiring direct community action at one of the main causes of climate change - coal burning power stations – specifically Hazelwood coal power station.

Climate change activists in solidarity with striking coal workers

On Wednesday 8th July, environmental activists joined the picket line at the Hazelwood coal fired power station as part of the annual Students of Sustainability conference. Defying all dietary stereotypes, the Mining & Energy division of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) cooked a vegetarian BBQ for the students.

Scientists call for protection of Victorian forests - world’s most carbon-dense

Scientists and the Wilderness Society have called on the Federal Government to urgently protect native forests in South East Australia as a method of locking up carbon, with new scientific research showing that the world’s most carbon dense forests are found in cool temperate climates of Australia, particularly the central highlands of Victoria.

The Green scare hits Australia

With the Herald Sun and The Age hyping a threat by the Earth Liberation Front against the Hazelwood power station's boss it looks like we now have the equivalent of the 1950's red scare going on. Death threats are something that are sent to public figures everyday, but rarely reported. In this case the government and coal companies are attempting to smear anyone opposing coal and particularly those who use direct action.

Wonthaggi protest highlights desalination issue for Melbourne

One person was arrested when protesters carrying two banners walked onto the Desalination Plant proposed site near Wonthaggi on May 9. The occasion was a rally at the gates of the proposed site organised by Watershed Victoria and Melbourne supporters.
