Major Protest Ignites Education Department undermines Commonwealth and State Heritage Applications

Press Release 6th June At 7.00am today the VDEECD sent workers and police onto Ballerrt Mooroop College against the Community Picket to fence off two thirds of the school's land to start building a second school on the same site. There is currently a major Sit In and Blockade in protest at the education department's three year plan to build another school on the site when other schools have become vacant.

ANTaR update on Lake Tyer women's blockade - the blockade WILL continue!

A group of women have started a blockade at Lake Tyers Aboriginal community in Victoria's far south east. The spokesperson for the blockaders is Leanne Edwards.

They set up their blockade on International Women's Day and on Friday released a second statement affirming that their blockade continues after having met with people from Aboriginal Affairs Victoria and Minister Jeannette Powell's office and recieved no joy as to their concerns.

No dump at Muckaty! Protests continue in Martin Ferguson's electorate, 24 February 2011

To mark the one-year anniversary of the announcement of Muckaty in the Northern Territory as the chosen site for a proposed national radioactive waste dump, members of Friends of the Earth ACE (Anti-nuclear and Clean Energy) Collective* toured part of Energy and Resources Minister Martin Ferguson's Batman electorate in search of an alternative dumping ground.

Queensland police continue cover up of Doomadgee's death

In another outrageous move by the Queensland Police Force, the Deputy Police Commissioner Kathy Rydners has been given the task of whether to discipline six police officers for their role in sabotaging any investigation of Cameron Doomadgee on Palm Island in 2004. The problem is that she has previously awarded bravery awards to two of the police officers involved in combating the protest on Palm Island which saw the Police station and Court House destroyed after locals heard that the results of Doomadgee's autopsy.

A group of Traditional Owners from Muckaty are currently in Melbourne in connection with a court challenge to Government plans to build a nuclear waste dump on their land. This morning they attended the launch of a billboard in Northcote funded by supporters of the Australian Conservation Foundation, and this afternoon they followed this up by joining members of Friends of the Earth ACE collective and others outside the office of Federal Resources and Energy Minister Martin Ferguson. Stop the racist intervention – picket of FaHCSIA

On Friday 18th June, protesters held a community picket of the FAHSCIA offices in Melbourne on the 3rd Anniversary of the Northern Territory Intervention. Speakers including Indigenous people suffering the effects of the intervention first hand, Unionists and politicians expressed their disgust with the way the racist intervention, started by Howard, but continued by the Rudd/Guillard ALP controls Aboriginal peoples lives without improving their living conditions at all. The front entrance of the building was blocked, the back entrance closed after protesters almost entered the building and a replica of the Basic Cards as burnt.

Senate report increases determination to fight Muckaty nuclear dump

The Beyond Nuclear Initiative (BNI) says a Senate report on the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill released on May 7 is deplorable and will invigorate efforts to oppose a dump at Muckaty Station in the Northern Territory.
