The founder of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Brisbane says Indigenous people need to be heard on the issue of sovereignty. Musgrave Park in South Brisbane is the site of the third Aboriginal embassy to be set up across the country, with others already operating in Canberra and Perth.

Aboriginal tribal leader off to Europe to challenge Australian sovereignty

Goodooga, northwest-NSW, 1 December 2011 -- A northwest NSW tribal leader will travel to England from the 4th December and on to the Continent for discussions on the liberation of his Euahlayi people “from the tyrannical colonial rule that Aboriginal people have been subjected to since the English invasion”. Michael Anderson is the last survivor of the four young Black Power men who set up the Aboriginal Embassy in Canberra in 1972. Starting on the 26th of January 2012, Aboriginal rights activists, supporters and founding members of the tent embassy will corroboree for three days to commemorate and celebrate the 40th anniversary of what has been one of Australia's most successful and historically significant protests.

Aborigines ecstatic at emergency listing of Brighton historic area

The news that the Brighton historic area beside the Jordan River has received listing as one of Australia's outstanding heritage places is a fantastic boost to the chances of saving the area from destruction, Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre legal director Michael Mansell said. "The listing places the significance of the Jordan River area alongside Kakadu National Park, Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef. This is just a wonderful Christmas present to the people of Tasmania from the Australian Government."

Genocide of Aborigines since invasion, international conference told

Melbourne, 13 July 2010 - - An Aboriginal leader has told about 500 international psychologists and psychiatrists meeting here that Australia has perpetrated genocide on Aboriginal people since the white invasion and continues to do so.

Michael Anderson, leader of the 3,000 Euahlayi, whose lands straddle the border between northwest New South Wales and southwest Queensland, made the accusation to a genocide section of the 27th conference of the International Association of Applied Psychology, running from 12 to 16 July in the Melbourne Convention Centre.
