AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT MUST NOT DEPORT ALI CHOUDHRY

On Tuesday, January 7, members of the Refugee Action Collective
Victoria will rally at 12pm at the Department of Immigration
in Melbourne against the deportation of Ali Choudhry.

Ali is facing deportation, back to a country where there is life
imprisonment for being gay.

Ali Choudhry grew up in the United States and has few contacts in Pakistan.
He cannot read or write the local language.

He has been in a relationship with Brisbane neuroscientist Dr Matthew Hynd for

Hawke Cabinet decision on deaths in custody

Gerry Georgatos - Australians did not have to wait for the National Archives of Australia to release Cabinet papers (for 1987) to find out more about why the Government of Prime Minister Bob Hawke brought on what would become the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. There is nothing in the Cabinet documents that has not been widely known since Prime Minister Hawke moved on the dissent from the rising deaths in custody toll.

On the 26th January, 2014, the seventh annual Belgrave Survival Day event will once again celebrate Indigenous culture and the survival of Australia’s first people through 225 years of white settlement. This year we welcome Multi-Award winning and legendary Australian musician, the incomparable Archie Roach, who will be playing from his large back catalogue as well as some new songs from his award winning album ‘Into the Bloodstream’ .

Join us in a celebration of Indigenous Culture. This year featuring Archie Roach with Craig Pilkington, Gnarnayarrahe Waitairie, Joe Geia and Khan. With Welcome to Country by Uncle Bill Nicholson, Traditional dancing and didgeridoo, Aunty Dot Peters, Storytelling, kids activities as well as speakers and special acknowledgement on 100th anniversary of WW1 of Indigenous war service and frontier wars. Hosted yet again by the marvellous MC Leila Gurruwiri.
This is an alcohol free event.
