$25.4 billion spent on Aboriginal disadvantage is a lie

By Gerry Georgatos - courtesy of The Stringer - http://thestringer.com.au/ It has been touted that $25.4 billion annually is invested in Aboriginal peoples – in order to raise those among them out of abject poverty –“through 86 initiatives”. This claim has dangerously washed through the Australian consciousness as ‘fact’ but it is instead a crock of shit. It is claimed this $25.4 billion spend represents 5.6 per cent of the national budget – for 2.6 per cent of the population.

Unpacking Transphobia

Join in discussion of Radical Women’s statement about transphobia in the feminist movement. RW explains how radical feminists’ biological determinism leads to a male-phobic and transphobic deadend - twisting feminism, a driving force for human liberation, into its opposite

Come with your ideas of how to fight the oppression that trans people face under capitalism. Brainstorm how to advance trans issues in political and social movements. Everyone is welcome!

Regional Rail Destroys More Heritage

The Regional Rail Link Authority continues its merry destruction of cultural heritage in Melbourne's western suburbs. This time it is demolishing the heritage listed McKay Footbridge in Sunshine. The bridge, registered with Heritage Victoria as one of the few remaining pedestrian rail bridges of this kind and a part of the historic McKay Memorial Gardens, is being demolished to make way for additional freight lines as part of the Authority's "future-proofing" the rail system.
