Kennon Auto Community Protest

Update: Kennon Auto dispute is now officially over. With the help of their union, broad trades hall support and Workers Solidarity Network the strike ended with total victory for the Kennon workers at 4:30 Monday afternoon. They were out for 19 days but after 7 full days of total blockade, nothing in or out, Kennon's sole buyer - Toyota - demanded that Kennon management end the dispute on any terms necessary. Not only did the workers win a return to all prior conditions but also secured a much needed pay rise.

Replace Hazelwood NDA – Belgrave Protest

As part of the July 17th National Day of Action calling for the shut down and replacing of Hazelwood Power Station in Latrobe Valley , Australia’s dirtiest, 40 people gathered outside the office of Victorian ALP Cabinet member James Merlino’s in Belgrave. Uniting under the call that “renewable is doable” the group demanded the closure of Hazelwood and its replacement with 100% Renewable energy as laid out in the recently released Beyond Zero Emissions Report. Its time for this privately owned carbon spewing monstrosity to go!

Melbourne saw yet another successful demonstration of thousands hitting the streets to demand an end to the ban on same sex marriage on May 15th as a part of a national day of action, one of many in Equal Love's National Year of Action.

We invite everybody who opposes the homophobia to take a stand once again against the ban on same sex marriage on the 6th anniversary of the Federal legislation that disallows same sex couples the same rights as their heterosexual brothers and sisters.

On July 14th, Bastille Day, a group of activists gathered in front of BHP Billiton’s Melbourne office to alert their fellow citizens as to the corporate world’s neo-conservative mantra:Servitude, Inequality, Hostility.

Called the “Lemmings for Rich Bloated Resource Rich Billionaires’ we promise to give our pennies freely so that they can continue to live the good life. Ha! Ha!

How to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2020

The public launch of the Beyond Zero Emissions report - Zero Carbon Australia 2020 - was delivered to an overflowing audience at Melbourne University last night. The report is one possible blueprint for acting on the challenge of climate change by converting the existing coal and gas fired carbon pollution dependent electricity generation to 100% renewables using only current technologies in ten years.
