Date and Time:
Tue, 15/03/2011 -
7:00am to 5:00pm
Location:
Anywhere you want to hold an action!

Following the Global Action for Tasmania's forests on 15 December 2010, with the help of emails and actions in 52 cities in 21 countries around the world, the Tasmanian Government has announced a moratorium on the logging of High Conservation Value forests in Tasmania!

This is a tremendous victory for the conservation of nature BUT the devil is in the detail.

First Mumbulla koala protest charges decided in Bega Local Court.

Bega Valley Shire Councillor Keith Hughes has become the first person to successfully defend a charge for his role in the Mumbulla koala forest blockades earlier this year. (See Traditional owners, conservationists protest far south coast logging)

Cr Hughes was found “not guilty” in Bega Local Court last week (21st December 2010) on 2 out of 3 police charges alleging that he blocked log trucks on Mumbulla Creek Road. He was found guilty of a third charge.

Mass arrests disrupt coal supply at Bayswater, Keneally given ultimatum on coal

130 people pushed over a fence and entered onto land adjacent to the Bayswater coal-fired power station on Sunday 5th December. 12 people attached themselves with a device to the train tracks and approximately 60 of the 130 remained in the vicinity of the tracks. The remaining protestors tried negotiating with Police and stating that they were willing to voluntarily remove themselves from the train tracks on the condition that The NSW Premier Kristina Keneally withdraw the 'Bayswater B' proposal, commit to no new coal in NSW and begin a transition to renewable energy immediately.

Tex O'Grady and his dog: A feel-good story or a case for the R.S.P.C.A.?

The major news outlets have today promoted the story of Tex O'Grady and his motorcycling dog following the booking of Mr O'Grady by police under RTA laws relating to dogs travelling on motorcycles.

Much has been made of the 'fact' that Tex and the dog have travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres 'safely'.

I have today attempted to have comments published on the Daily Telegraph website relating to this story because the whole truth has not been told. Perhaps Tex has friends in high places due to his charitable donations. None of my comments have been posted.

CSIRO: South East Australia becoming drier, global warming implicated

A new report into the changing climate of South East Australia and particularly the Murray Darling Basin indicates an increasing risk of below average rainfall and runoff into streams and generally drier conditions. The change in the climate has, at least in part, been attributed to an increase in atmospheric anthropogenic greenhouse gases associated with global warming.
