The ABC takes a long summer break

I was barely awake, but even so I recall the unmistakable voice of the ABC summer presenter mouthing polite platitudes of sympathy for the thousands of Haitians killed in the massive earthquake which hit the capital, Port-au-Prince on the 13th January. The journalistic imperatives of what, where, and who were barely mentioned, with the crucial how and why, the object of neglect. In their place, the summer listeners were urged to partake in an aural orgy detailing their own most frightening life event.

Australias secret police state concentration camps

You could just be walking down the street wearing a funny looking teeshirt & someone can make a telephone call to a intake officer & have you locked up & drugged.

You could just be having a conversation with friends or family & someone behind your back will make a complaining telephone call & you will be locked up & drugged.

Lest we forget the war against Indigenous Australians

Dr Joseph Toscano writes on the commemoration of indigenous resistance and early Melbourne history and the need for a monument to the indigenous freedom fighters, Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner, who were the first judicial executions in Melbourne on January 20, 1842.

Aboriginal summit: “Be prepared for the fight of your life”

Goodooga, northwest NSW, 16 January 2010 - - Euahlayi activist Michael Anderson says people coming to the three-day Aboriginal summit in Canberra two weeks from now should “be prepared for the fight of your life”.

“This will be heated and furious because when people are hurting they will not hold back. (But) it is important to understand that it is the system that we have to fight, not each other,” the veteran campaigner for Aboriginal rights says in a media release.

East Timor: imperialist predators feast, covered with blood.

The modern history of East Timor indicates very clearly what animal brutality hidden behind "humanitarian" façade of modern imperialism. A brief excursion through this drama will allow us to draw two very important conclusions.

The most important fact, which explains a great deal, can be specified at once. There are rich deposits of oil and natural gas in the offshore waters of the country.
