Gurindji tell consultations meeting: 'stop the Intervention immediately'
IRAG: http://rollbacktheintervention.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/mr-gurindji_s...
28 Jul 11: "Gurindji people from the communities of Kalkaringi and Daguragu spoke with a united voice during a government consultation meeting yesterday, demanding an immediate end to the NT Intervention.
Gurindji said the loss of control over community land, new CDEP arrangements forcing people to work for the BasicsCard and the take-over of community council assets by the Victoria Daly Shire are making life harder every day.
They are upset that Minister Jenny Macklin did not attend the consultation meeting personally and are demanding she face the community on 'Freedom Day', the 45th anniversary of the Wave Hill walk-off on August 26th."

* UPDATE ON KIMBERLEY GAS HUB PROTEST:

- Media Release

Greens: Rachel Siewert: Woodside accused of trespass as gas hub workers attempt to bypass protestors
http://rachel-siewert.greensmps.org.au/content/media-release/woodside-ac...
27 Jul 11: "Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert has called on Woodside to better educate its workforce about respect for Aboriginal land after it emerged that contractors are driving across Aboriginal land in a bid to get around James Price Point protestors.
"Woodside contractors are driving across land held by the neighbouring Yawuru people in a bid to bypass protesters opposed to the building of the gas hub," Senator Siewert, Greens Spokesperson for the Kimberley and Aboriginal Issues said today.
"How would they like it if people drove over their properties without permission? It appears that respect for Aboriginal culture and native title claims is extremely low among the contractors working on this project," Senator Siewert said."

National Indigenous Times: Gas hub opponents in a petition to Canberra
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22528
21 Jul 11: "Three Aboriginal leaders fighting against a planned gas hub in Western Australia’s Kimberley region have vowed to step up protests despite the riot squad making dozens of arrests and finally breaking the blockade. The trio have now taken their fight to Canberra armed with a petition signed by residents of Broome. Mitch Torres, Allan Pigram and Dr Anne Poelina have handed Environment Minister, Tony Burke a petition signed by 3000 people, 20 per cent of Broome’s population."

National Indigenous Times: Barnett warned about lauding gas deal
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22539
21 Jul 11: "The West Australian Premier, Colin Barnett has been cautioned about lauding the recent signing of the Kimberley gas agreement. Some local Indigenous people have objected to the Premier’s labelling of the deal as "the most significant act of self-determination by an Aboriginal group in Australian history". Mitch Torres belongs to the Jabirr-Jabirr Goolarabooloo claim group which voted 60-40 to go ahead with the deal. However, she said the deal was by no means an act of self-determination, as the vote was only won by a narrow margin, with the Government committed to seizing the land through the courts even if traditional owners had not agreed."

National Indigenous Times: Barnett backs police handling of protestors at gas hub blockade
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22527
21 Jul 11: "West Australian Premier Colin Barnett has defended police actions in dealing with protesters at a site for a proposed gas hub near Broome amid claims officers used excessive force. Police broke through a protest blockade in order to allow Woodside Petroleum contractors to the site of a proposed gas hub at James Price Point in the Kimberley. Bulldozers have begun clearing vegetation at the site so geotechnical studies could be undertaken."

Elimatta:
Aboriginal Support Group - Manly Warringah Pittwater:
Our Generation - Showing in London - page 8
http://www.asgmwp.net/ElimattaWinter2011.pdf
Winter 2011: "The Intervention is yet another example of the appalling treatment the Aboriginal People of Australia have been subjected to in such a short period of time compared to thousands of years of survival. Sinem Saban and Rev. Dr Gondarra supported by the Yolngu people and cinematographer, Damien Curtis, have created a sensitive and realistic view of the plight of those who wish to live a more traditional life in their homelands and of those who appear to be dispossessed." Christine Waterer

Elimatta:
Aboriginal Support Group - Manly Warringah Pittwater:
ASG Information Night: Our Generation - page 6
http://www.asgmwp.net/ElimattaSummer2010.pdf
Summer 2010: "Local resident and journalist, Jeff McMullen introduced "Our Generation", the film by Sinem Saban and Damien Curtis which we were there to see. The film explored in depth the Federal Government Intervention into Aboriginal Communities in the Northern Territory. Jeff had told us that the film’s producers were not having any success in having the film shown on government or commercial media outlets and they were having to screen it in local community halls to show the community at large just what was involved in the Intervention. It is basically a war on Aboriginal culture. The dispossession of the Aboriginal people is simply continuing in a new guise." Carol Gerrard

National Indigenous Times: Consultation protest
http://www.nit.com.au/breakingnews/story.aspx?id=22552
25 Jul 11: "Twenty four eminent South Australians, including the highly respected Lowitja O’Donoghue and the winner of this year’s NAIDOC Scholar of the Year, Dr Lester-Irabinna Rigney have sent a public statement of protest to the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard about the consultation meetings currently being undertaken on the Northern Territory Intervention. The letter attacks the consultation process and increases pressure on the Federal Government and Ms Macklin in particular to address the criticisms that have been levelled at the whole process."

National Indigenous Times: Highway robbery
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22546
21 Jul 11: "The Federal Government has said it will continue to pay for 99 year leases to remote communities in the Northern Territory by using funds paid into the Aboriginal Benefits Account. The admission has drawn a strong rebuke from Social Justice Commissioner, Mick Gooda who has said the Government action is outrageous. Mr Gooda said it effectively meant the Federal Government was paying Aboriginal people from money that was Aboriginal money in the first place."

National Indigenous Times: Angry Maningrida demands an end to Intervention
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22537
21 Jul 11: "Angry residents at the remote Arnhem Land community of Maningrida criticised the Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister about the Northern Territory Intervention telling her the Government had lied to them. The angry locals confronted Ms Macklin during her visit to hold community consultations on the discussion paper launched by the Government last month seeking feedback on the effects of the Intervention and what the Government should do when the current Intervention ends in August next year."

National Indigenous Times: Petition presented to Senate
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22535
21 Jul 11: "A petition containing 2500 signatures has been presented to the Federal Senate protesting against lost jobs and exploitative working conditions under the Northern Territory Intervention. The petition was presented to Greens Senator Rachel Siewert and was sponsored by Unions NT, the CFMEU and anti-Intervention campaign groups across the country. The petition claimed that although there was the promise of "real jobs", many Aboriginal people were working for Centrelink payments "quarantined" onto a BasicsCard due to cuts to Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP)."

National Indigenous Times: Fraser and friends tell Macklin her actions are just disrespectful
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22533
21 Jul 11: "Three eminent Australians, Malcolm Fraser, Ian Viner and Alastair Nicholson have written again to the Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin accusing her of being disrespectful by attempting to bypass Elders, Law men and Law women in consultations about the Northern Territory Intervention. In an open letter they accused the Minister of not honouring her pledge to properly consult with those affected by the Intervention."

National Indigenous Times: At Wadeye money pours in but not all are winners
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22536
21 Jul 11: "Wadeye, 250 kilometres south-west of Darwin, offers a snapshot of the problems of the Northern Territory Intervention. As one of the 20 designated growth towns, its population is expected to rise from 2500 to 4300 by 2029 and millions of dollars have been allocated to infrastructure and services."

National Indigenous Times: Anderson slams "pretend jobs" in Territory
http://www.nit.com.au/news/story.aspx?id=22534
21 Jul 11: "Alison Anderson has told a Government budget estimates hearing she is worried many of the jobs being created for Indigenous people were "pretend jobs".
