2 Feb 14: "Constitutional recognition for Australia's indigenous peoples is suddenly very high on the national to do list.. Recognition, Reconciliation two words that capture the mood of the times in relations between white and indigenous australia. But what are we asking black and white australia to reconcile? How deep do we need to dig to heel the sense of grievance that still divides the original Australians and the colonisers, the generations who followed from 1788? Historian Henry Reynolds believes the conflict between Indigenous people and white settles should be recognised as a war ... "

8 Jan 14: "There is far too little, if any, commemoration of Australia’s war between the settlers and the original inhabitants, historian Henry Reynolds argues. He says that until those conflicts are fully acknowledged, in the same way that our overseas battles have been, reconciliation will never be complete. Originally broadcast on 22/7/13.

30 Jan 14: "In The Sydney Morning Herald of 18 January 2014, Fairfax Media reported that in an address to the National Australia Day Council, noted scientist Tim Flannery, expressed his 'sense of outrage' that the Australian War Memorial (AWM) refuses to honour Aboriginal warriors who fought and died defending their lands and their people against white invader settlers in the Frontier Wars of 1788-1928." http://thestringer.com.au/tumult-of-death-400-suicides-in-last-three-years/
25 Jan 14: "Last year, I aggregated Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) hospital collated data on reported suicides of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - 996 suicides from 2001 to 2010. That is 1 in 24 of all deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people - by suicide. There is no ABS data available at time to determine whether the crisis has abated or got worse, but I have been record keeping reported suicides - whether through the media, community organisations or via other sources - for my own academic research on premature and unnatural deaths. ... The Stringer: Suicide crisis needs real funding and actions
http://thestringer.com.au/suicide-crisis-needs-real-funding-and-actions/
2 Feb 14: "The suicide crisis among our First Nations Peoples should be this nation’s number one priority – all attention should be on this, we have children suiciding like never before, it’s our darkest tragedy. There are 170 at-risk communities without adequate funding to implement long overdue suicide prevention strategies. Between 2007-2011, nationally there were 11,600 deaths by suicide recorded. But in confirming my own research, the Productivity Commission found the Northern Territory had a dramatically higher suicide rate than elsewhere in the nation, generally more than double with 21 deaths per 100,000." 31 Jan 14: "Western Australia has one of the nation’s highest homelessness rates – well, why would it not when Government itself induces en masse homelessness. In 2003 the Western Australian State Government closed down the Swan Valley Nyungah Community’s residences in the north eastern Perth suburb of Lockridge because of allegations of sexual abuse against only one of its Elders. Instead of containing the issues target-specific, the then Premier Geoff Gallop degenerated to the disgraceful decision to evict all the residents – and shut down the community’s eleven homes."
