Mr Mohamed, the Chair of the National Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) credits the better general result in the Northern Territory to Aboriginal Community controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO) and their peak body AMSANT."

17 Jun 13: "It is correct that Australia too is feeling the pinch of the global recession but as the world’s 12th largest economy and with a resources mining boom still in full swing there is little excuse for funding cuts to Closing the Gap initiatives and initiatives addressing homelessness. In the last six months, federally and state-wide governments have terminated funding which has hurt impoverished Aboriginal communities, that have diminished Closing the Gap initiatives and that have downsized services to the homeless (whose numbers are rising)."

17 Jun 13: "Aboriginal youth suicide, standalone from the rest of the Australian population, has reached such levels that it is often the highest rate of youth suicide in the world. This phenomena has arisen during the last couple of decades. Despite a number of Closing the Gap initiatives arguing improved numbers in life-expectancy averages and more Aboriginal children in education, the suicides are climbing, and the average ages are getting younger. Alongside the rise in Aboriginal suicides there has been a rise in Aboriginal homelessness and in Aboriginal incarceration rates."

17 Jun 13: "A three-year study into Indigenous oral hygiene in South Australia has uncovered "horrifying" discrimination against Aboriginal women with some dentists refusing to see Aboriginal patients at all. Researchers from the University of Adelaide surveyed 446 mums-to-be who were pregnant with children of Aboriginal heritage over a three year period from regional and metropolitan SA. Not only did they all suffer multiple dental issues, their issues were compounded by social problems such as unemployment with a 90 per cent jobless rate among the group." By Michelle O'Rielly
