Country regions right behind the renters rights revolution – now a national movement

Renters Alliance (RA) WA coordinator Lea Keenan said that every week now Blackwood residents, renters and some who are home owners, are joining the movement and "are motivated for a united pursuance for legislation to make life fair for everyone."

Rally – August 15 – WA State Parliament – Rallies Australia-wide – October 16 – every capital city and many towns.

World Refugee Day Rally Perth

2012 Marks 20 years since the policy of mandatory detention of asylum seekers was introduced in Australia. Prior to this asylum seekers were processed in the community: no barbed wire, no fences, no imprisonment.

The Refugee Rights Action Network is holding a march through the city to speak out for the rights of refugees and against the inhumane policy of mandatory detention.

Join us for the march and afterwards for tea and coffee, speeches, poetry and live music in Wesley Uniting Church.

The Socialist Equality Party will be holding public meetings in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth on Sunday, June 10, to defend WikiLeaks’ editor and Australian citizen Julian Assange. The British Supreme Court has rejected his appeal against attempts to extradite him to Sweden on dubious sexual assault allegations, for which he has not even been charged. The Swedish authorities are functioning as nothing more than a tool of the US Obama administration, which wants to force Assange to Sweden.

Global justice campaigner and WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange has contributed his life to standing up for the oppressed and in challenging the world’s most powerful governments and clandestine institutions.

Mr Assange was born in Townsville, Queensland however he readily acknowledges a diverse heritage which he proudly said includes a Torres Strait Islander great-great-grandparent. In his form and content is that of a Thursday Islander, his (step) great-great-grandmother.

Julian Assange loses appeal against extradition - rallies to occur on the 31st of May

It has just been announced that Julian Assange has lost his appeal in the UK High Court against his extradition to Sweden. He legal team however has been granted a two week period to consider an appeal to have the case reopened on a technicality.

The Renters Alliance (RA) started only several months ago in Western Australia with a number of its original members from Bridgetown and the Blackwood region. The RA spokesperson Lea Keenan said the renters rights movement has spread Australia-wide after the RA was swamped with emails and calls from distressed renters.

Premier Colin Barnett welcomed the announcement by Burrup Nitrates Pty Ltd that it will proceed with building a technical ammonium nitrate plant at an estimated investment of $800 million.

Premier Barnett also holds the ministerial portfolio of state development minister however just a few years ago he was calling for an end to development on the Burrup Peninsula.

Wiluna's folk unhappy about WA's first uranium mine

Aboriginal Elders from Wiluna have slammed WA's Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in approving an application for a nearby uranium mine, and it now appears only a matter of time for the state government to approve the EPA decision.

The EPA has given their go-ahead for the Toro Energy company's proposal to develop the mine 30 kilometres from Wiluna - It will become WA's first uranium mine.
