Such Is Life is a DIY punk festival organised on a not-for-profit basis. It first took place in 2004 and is the only festival of its kind happening in Australia.

Such Is Life Fest 2012 will take place in Goongerah from Friday 9th - Sunday 11th March. Camping space + limited amounts of food and beverages will be provided. Bands will play everyday. Much madness will take place. No dogs, no fires, no fancy lodgings, no sooks -camping only! More details soon.

Permaculture is a broad design system for building sustainable human habitats, drawing inspiration from patterns in natural systems.

Topics covered in this course include context and an introduction to permaculture ethics and design principles, illustrated with topics relevant to home food production and frugal resource use, such as garden design, water catchment and use, urban animals, companion planting, caring for soil. Includes case studies and design examples. Hands-on activities include marking out contours on slopes and making a good compost pile.

Candle-lit vigil and performance for refugees in detention over Christmas

On Thursday, December 15, the Refugee Action Collective (Victoria) held a vigil and performative action to remember over 4,000 asylum seekers and refugees that will languish in immigration detention over Christmas. Supporters and activists, and passers-by helped to light the 4,000 candles and keep them alight over a few hours as musicians performed and passers-by stopped to talk to us about the issue, and sign petitions to stop the deportation of a Hazara asylum seeker, Ismail.
