The complexity and volatility of spatial relations in the Middle East have been brought into sharp relief in recent times. Delineation of space in these highly contested territories – whether physical or systemic – has been known to play a key part in manifestations of injustice, where authorities have sought to limit freedoms, control movement and enact human rights abuses. Yet, conversely, spatial practices can be used to challenge these same mechanisms of oppression.

REFUGEE RIGHTS SUPPORTERS AND ANTI-RACIST BANDS ARE JOINING FORCES!

Calling all refugee supporters! We need to take to the streets once again to stop Rudd & Abbott's racist anti-refugee policies. One rally, two rallies is not enough. We have to keep on taking a stand until the PNG deal is scrapped and the racist tide is pushed back.

On Saturday 27 July, 5000 people marched for justice for refugees. This is the largest refugee rights demonstration in about a decade! Congratulations to everyone who came.

Land deal fails important tests

To all, a piece in The West Australian, yesterday, on a native title proposal:
LAND DEAL FAILS IMPORTANT TESTS - http://freepdfhosting.com/970ffb2f05.pdf
- Much has been made of the State Government’s billion-dollar-plus offer to the Noongar people via the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council.

But is it a genuine native title offer or a politicised move to coerce a proposition that native title rights have been settled for all those considered Noongars and that all future rights are extinguished?
