Byron Bay occupied by cops

Friday 18th November, 2011 by Harsha Prabhu The beaches and streets of Byron Bay - Australia's favourite easternmost tourist destination - were crawling with police of every description on Friday 18th Nov. Officers from the Tweed and the Sniffer Dog Squad, Riot Squad and Mounted Squad from Sydney joined local police in the police operation. The police action was in response to the start of Schoolie's Week - when several thousand school leavers were scheduled to descend on Byron - but the only people who seemed to be about in force on Friday night at 10pm was the police force itself.

Banner hanging a prelude of things to come...

"Goldman Sachs rules the world"
- Alessio Rastani

This morning we left a friendly message* hanging from the roof of Malcolm Turnbull's office.

Through it, we send our love and solidarity to all those occupying squares and buildings around the world as a stand against the global dictatorship of state and capital. We stand in struggle with the poor, the prisoners and the indigenous custodians of this
land, now carved up by mining and banking interests.

Ya Want Koala Chips with That Ms Parker? Whaddaya mean hold the Quoll Paste?

By now everyone knows of NSW Minister for Environment and Heritage, Robyn Parker's Budget Estimates Committee alleged gaffe on Thursday 27 October 2011 that koalas are 'protected by logging'.

The "Logging saves Biodiversity" line is not unfamiliar. Forests NSW has run similar arguments frequently for decades. Take a look at this story they ran on ABC radio 6 days ago:
