ABC TV Big Ideas: IQ2 Debate: True Reconciliation Requires a Treaty
http://www.abc.net.au/tv/bigideas/stories/2014/01/31/3934887.htm
31 Jan 14: "Does true reconciliation in this country need a treaty? That's the proposition for this IQ2 Debate out of The Wheeler Centre in Melbourne. Will a treaty change the way we do government in this country? Is it something we should be scared of? What does a treaty deliver? ... "

* GERRY GEORGATOS, THE STRINGER: TREATY

- Analysis / Opinion

The Stringer: Treaty
http://thestringer.com.au/treaty/
24 Jan 14: "Australia wide, there is a rise in calls for Treaty. Two surveys by The National Indigenous Times and The Stringer on whether Treaty is the preferred way forward for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples overwhelmingly cried out for Treaty. One survey asked 120 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the nation if Treaty is the way forward, and the staggering result was that 117 said yes. Many said any Treaty had to be defined by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the final draft voted on by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples only and that it must not be decided on by some elite nor by some elected body. ... * GERRY GEORGATOS, THE STRINGER: YALMAY YUNUPINGU DISCUSSES CALL FOR TREATY

- Analysis / Opinion

The Stringer: Yalmay Yunupingu discusses call for Treaty
http://thestringer.com.au/yalmay-yunupingu-learns-of-the-call-for-treaty/
31 Jan 14: "When the chair of the Indigenous Advisory Council, Warren Mundine went national with his now famous call for Treaty between First Nation peoples and the Australian Government it took four days for the news to reach Yirrkala and Nhulunbuy. Four days passed before Yalmay Yunupingu learned of the call for Treaty. I phoned Ms Yunupingu to discuss her late husband’s vision and was surprised to find myself breaking the news to her." * GERRY GEORGATOS, THE STRINGER: YALMAY YUNUPINGU LEARNS OF THE CALLS FOR TREATY

- Analysis / Opinion

The Stringer: Yalmay Yunupingu learns of the calls for TREATY
http://thestringer.com.au/yalmay-yunupingu-learns-of-the-calls-for-treaty/
30 Jan 14: "Today, I spoke with Yalmay Yunupingu – wife of the late Dr Yunupingu, who famously responded to Prime Minister Bob Hawke’s broken promise (to the Baranga Statement, 1988) with the internationally acclaimed song, TREATY. Despite days passing since news media around the country published and broadcast Warren Mundine’s and Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s support for Treaty, the news had not reached Nhulunbuy or nearby Yirrkala. Mrs Yunupingu was stifled with joy, a cheer of ‘woo hoo’ and then to the almost immediate reflection that her husband did not live long enough to see the reclamation of hope that Treaty may surely eventuate. ... * NIT: UTOPIA SHOWS SCULLION'S TRUANCY ARMY IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A TREATY

- Analysis / Opinion

Respect and Listen: Utopia News:
NIT - Utopia shows Scullion's truancy army is no substitute for a Treaty
http://www.respectandlisten.org/miscellaneous/docos/utopia.html#Utopia-News
29 Jan 14: "... There are many hundreds of Utopias throughout Australia... What Mr Pilger has brought to the screen for the world to see is nothing new to most Indigenous Australians. They have been forced to live with it for most of their lives. But the documentary, Utopia was not primarily created to capture the attention of Indigenous Australians. Mr Pilger's objective is to shame Australia to the rest of the world for the way it treats this country's first inhabitants and he has done so in spades. ... "

* GERRY GEORGATOS, THE STRINGER: PRIME MINISTER TONY ABBOTT OPINES FOR TREATY

- Analysis / Opinion

The Stringer: Prime Minister Tony Abbott opines for Treaty
http://thestringer.com.au/prime-minister-tony-abbott-opines-for-treaty/
1 Feb 14: "Sources close to Prime Minister Tony Abbott have told me that he is not only supportive of Warren Mundine’s call for Treaty or Treaties but that the Prime Minister has opined for quite some time for a Treaty between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the Australian nation. Mr Mundine has Prime Minister Abbott’s blessing and full support. They intend to bring on Treaty. One year ago, I interviewed Mr Abbott as the Opposition leader and as the likely future leader of this nation. It was an extensive interview. ...
