16 Oct 13: "Australia’s peak Aboriginal and Islander representative body is concerned that mainstream media coverage depicting extreme cases of poor governance in some Aboriginal organisations will stereotype others and all of the good work and success that has been achieved. National Congress of Australia’s First People’s co chair Kirstie Parker says while Warren Mundine has said part of the challenge for Aboriginal people is to clean up their organisations and to fix up the problems, she is concerned this will be the only conversation."

One key difference between the candidates though is representation for Aboriginal people in Parliament. 11 Oct 13: "Leading Aboriginal educator Dr Chris Sarra has challenged moves to expand an American style education program currently being trialled on Cape York, to other communities outside of Queensland. Dr Sarra from the now independent based Stronger Smarter Institute in Queensland says the American styled Direct Intruction method being championed by Cape York reformer Noel Pearson is "a crazy draconian program" not dissimilar to those imposed on students with learning difficulties in the 1930′s and 40′s"

16 Sep 13: "NATIONAL: Prime Minister-elect Tony Abbott has named his first cabinet and outer ministry – with NT Senator Nigel Scullion confirmed as Indigenous affairs minister. Senator Scullion is also the leader of the Nationals in the Senate. There will be no Minister for Indigenous Health or for Indigenous employment – which were junior portfolios under Labor. Mr Abbott announced during the election campaign that the Indigenous affairs portfolio would be placed within Prime Minister and Cabinet, and that he would like to be a “Prime Minister for Indigenous Affairs”. The Bunjilaka First Peoples exhibition is the culmination of years of collaboration with elders and community representatives across south-eastern Australia. Lead curator Genevieve Grieves says it will be a permanent exhibition, highlighting the diversity of Aboriginal cultures."
