Updated Event: Tue 4 February 2014: Melbourne, Vic
Book launch: 'concerned Australians' - In the Absence of Treaty
Edited by Michele Harris
"Unfortunately this event is already booked out"
In conjunction with the screening of Utopia, http://utopiajohnpilger.co.uk/
John Pilger’s film on Aboriginal Australia
Speakers: Hon. Alastair Nicholson AO (book); Richard Frankland (film)
Venue: Storey Hall
'In the Absence of Treaty':
"This book explores the current inadequacy of
the process used in engaging with Aboriginal
people, which results in control slipping away
from them. It provides concise but incisive account
from recent reports about the reasons for the
ongoing and growing frustration of many
Aboriginal people in the NT. In doing so it
hints at possibly the only solution - treaties."
'Utopia':
"One of the world's best kept secrets is revealed
against a background of the greatest boom in
mineral wealth. Has the 'lucky country' inherited
South African apartheid? Utopia tells a universal
story of power and resistance in the media age
driven by old imperatives and presented as
liberalism." Official Utopia website
