31 May 13: "HUNDREDS of locals and visitors joined the rally against the proposed nuclear dump at Muckaty last Saturday afternoon. A main street protest march, which culminated at the Civic Hall, marked six years to the day since the Northern Land Council (NLC) controversially nominated the site, 120 kilometres north of Tennant Creek. Traditional owners, environmental, anti-nuclear and trades unions groups voiced their opposition to the Federal Government’s plans which are subject to a Federal court challenge."

4 Jun 13: "The Wilderness Society's case against the approval of the gas hub at James Price Point north of Broome has started in Perth's Supreme Court. The case before Chief Justice Wayne Martin is continuing even though the gas hub is not going ahead. The Wilderness Society and Goolarabooloo man Richard Hunter launched the action late last year. They argue there were more than a dozen grounds on which the approval of the gas hub was unlawful."

30 May 13: "The Wilderness Society says a Supreme Court challenge over the Kimberley gas hub site is still going ahead, despite Woodside's decision to abandon the project. The society last year lodged legal action against the Environmental Protection Authority's (EPA) decision to recommend the project at James Price Point go ahead. Although Woodside abandoned the plan, the court hearings are still due to go ahead next week. Society spokesman Peter Robertson says he is puzzled that the state wants to proceed with the hearings, despite being given the option to adjourn them."

This year’s Walk came just months after the Federal Government gave a conditional approval for the proposed Wiluna uranium mine - the first project to get this level of approval in Western Australia. The Walkers, which included twelve Aboriginal Rangers from Leonora, completed a three week walk from Yeelirrie to Leonora in opposition to uranium mining in the Goldfields regions. During the Walk first-timers learned about Country while those who had done the Walk before celebrated Culture."
