18 Apr 13: "Woodside's decision to shelve gas hub plans is only a temporary reprieve, says an elder. Woodside's abandoned plans at James Price Point have been welcomed by traditional owners but the issue is by far from resolved. ... Goolarabooloo Elder Phillip Roe, together with the Broome community and environmental groups nationwide, have been working to stop the industrialisation of the Kimberley. He tells Marc Tong, even though it's a win for the community with Woodside's decision, there's a longer road to walk yet."

12 Apr 13: "Greens leader Christine Milne says the battle against Woodside Petroleum's Browse LNG plant won't be over until the company rules out any development of Western Australia's James Price Point. Senator Milne has welcomed the decision to reconsider the $45 billion liquefied natural gas processing plant in the Kimberley but says suggestions of smaller projects in the area are still cause for concern. "The battle is not won until they leave James Price Point and the West Australian government repeals the legislation that enabled the development of James Price Point," Senator Milne told reporters in Hobart." Sea Shepherd Australia Director Jeff Hansen underscored the importance of winning such a "David and Goliath struggle": "This victory shows that no matter what the odds, no matter what the risks, no matter how well equipped, funded and government backed your opponents are, you must never give in, must never surrender, you must fight for what is right, because the one thing that is worth fighting for on our beautiful planet, is life."" 20 Apr 13: "A spokesman for the Broome Airport says shelving plans to build an international terminal is a set back for the community. The proposed expansion was contingent on Woodside choosing James Price Point for the Browse LNG project. Woodside shelved the development earlier this month. The airport's Nick Belyea says the expansion is no longer viable without the Browse project. "It would have seen increased domestic services into the airport, primarily from Perth, those would have been additional jet services," he said."

20 Apr 13: "Plans for a new $10-$20 million international airport terminal in Broome have been shelved in the wake of Woodside's shock decision to abandon the Kimberley gas hub. The facility, which was just months away from being built, would have seen a significant increase in commercial flights servicing the Kimberley and was designed to open up the region to the international market. Airport chief executive Nick Belyea said yesterday that the project was no longer viable." Steve Pennells, The West Australian

Woodside said a smaller plant at James Price Point may be explored, along with the option of processing the offshore gas through a floating LNG plant, which most pundits see as the most likely option, and saving the gas to process at a later date through the North West Shelf plant at Karratha." But it would consider a smaller land-based plant - a comment some analysts have dismissed as being designed to appease those pushing the original plan, including the state's premier Colin Barnett."

13 Apr 13: "But analysts didn't entirely swallow Woodside's claim that stiff opposition from environmentalists, indigenous heritage defenders and paleontologists hadn't been off-putting. As green groups - dismissed by West Australian Premier Colin Barnett as "professional protesters" - celebrated outside Woodside's Broome office, others debated whether the company would eventually opt for a floating project or simply pipe the gas south to the existing Pilbara gas precinct."
