To commemorate Anne Bon a plaque will be unveiled at the Kew Library. Anne Bon (1838-1936) pastoralist, philanthropist and campaigner for Aboriginal righs was a close friend of Wurundjeri statesman, William Barak and had a house in Charles St Kew.

In RiP: A remix manifesto, Web activist and filmmaker Brett Gaylor explores issues of copyright in the information age, mashing up the media landscape of the 20th century and shattering the wall between users and producers. The film features mash-up musician Girl Talk, Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig, Brazil's Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil and pop culture critic Cory Doctorow.

Goodooga, 17 September 09 -- A northwest NSW Aboriginal political activist says the assault on four Indian men outside a bar in Melbourne this week is representative of the hidden racism that exists in Australia.

Michael Anderson, last survivor of the four Black Power activists who set up the Aboriginal Embassy outside Parliament House in Canberra in 1972, says politicians remaining mute on these racist attacks reflects badly on Australia as a nation.

There is planned to be a protest about the closure of Australia's
largest planned solar plant near Mildura with loss of 100 jobs this
Friday lunchtime.
Solar Systems was placed under voluntary administration on 7 September
2009 placing the Midlura heliostat project and the jobs of two-thirds
of the workforce at risk.

Time for Eddie Chan to pay up!

On Friday September 18 between 5-6pm UNITE will stage an action outside the 7-Eleven store at 187 Domain Rd, South Yarra. The store is located on the corner of Park St, opposite the Botanical Gardens.

The South Yarra store is part owned by Eddie Chan. Until recently Chan also owned the Moorabool St store in Geelong where he paid his workers only half of the wages they were owed!

UNITE estimates that these Geelong workers are owed more than $100,000. Chan is refusing to pay up despite being ordered to by the Fair Work Ombudsman.

To celebrate Melbourne's role in the landscape of global activism and the recent relaunch of Melbourne Indymedia collective, Mebourne Indymedia and the Ross House Association are launching the Documentary Series 'Active Melbourne Films', films designed to inform and inspire, on Thursday.

We will start with some assorted indymedia clips to celebrate the relaunch of Indymedia Melbourne.

The first main film in the Series is titled ' Uranium – is it a country?', a new German documentary film that looks at Australia’s place in the global nuclear trade.

Anti-Fascists attack Neo-Nazi's business in Burwood

On the morning of the 14th of September, anti-fascists attacked the business of Justin O'Brien, known to be the Victorian representative of Blood & Honour, a worldwide neo-nazi organisation responsible for various race-hate crimes, including the racially motivated murder of a woman and her baby in Belgium.

O'Brien's tattoo shop, 'Hold Fast Tattoo' in Burwood was painted with 'Nazi Scum' and signed 'Antifa', in addition to its windows being smashed.

Address to "Switch Off Hazelwood" Climate Protest at Hazelwood Power Station, in Morwell, Victoria, by Dr Merryn Redenbach

On Sunday 13th September, after an overnight climate camp in Morwell, Victoria, five hundred protesters gathered outside Hazelwood coal fired power station. Hazelwood is one of the developed world's most polluting power stations. Among the five speakers to the rally, Dr Merryn Redenbach, a paediatric doctor and one of the protest organizers, spoke about the impacts of climate change and why the protesters were willing to risk arrest for trespass to promote the transition to renewable energy and closing down coal fired power stations.
