26 Sep 11: "The Northern Territory has released a draft update to its controversial policy on language in schools. In 2009 the Territory introduced a compulsory 'first 4 hours in English' policy. The new policy has signaled that the territory government isn’t backing down on its emphasis on English, and one expert says that the policy removes any possibility of indigenous literacy programs running in school time. Dr Brian Devlin is a bilingual education expert from Charles Darwin University. He says that the territory’s policies have quashed important creative enclaves where indigenous staff and indigenous artists had become central to the education of young children in their communities. ...

30 Sep 11: "The Commonwealth Ombudsman says Government departments are not always using Indigenous language interpreters when they should be and that "People can be excluded from and alienated by the very programs designed to assist them". Allan Asher, who has the task of supervising the Northern Territory emergency response and closing the gap programs says "Without interpreters and proper regard to the language barriers that Aboriginal people face, service delivery can be misdirected and damaging,""

28 Sep 11: "Federal resources minister Martin Ferguson's mishandling of the contentious plan to truck nuclear waste through SA to a dump site in the NT reached a new low with his misleading comments on ABC Riverland radio this morning.
Mr Ferguson claimed that no decision had been made on a dump site. However he is pushing the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill (NRWMB) through Parliament. The Bill targets Muckaty in the NT as the only site under active consideration for a dump site despite the fact that Muckaty Traditional Owners are challenging the nomination in the Federal Court, and despite NT legislation banning the imposition of a nuclear dump."

28 Sep 11: "RADIOACTIVE waste destined for the Territory is to be trucked through South Australia because NSW locals have declared "nuclear free zones" in their region. The waste could be trucked directly from the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor southwest of Sydney to the proposed dump near Tennant Creek. But a report commissioned by the Federal Government advises sending the waste through SA "would avoid the emotive movement of waste through the Blue Mountains"."

Summer 2010: "Local resident and journalist, Jeff McMullen introduced "Our Generation", the film by Sinem Saban and Damien Curtis which we were there to see. The film explored in depth the Federal Government Intervention into Aboriginal Communities in the Northern Territory. Jeff had told us that the film’s producers were not having any success in having the film shown on government or commercial media outlets and they were having to screen it in local community halls to show the community at large just what was involved in the Intervention. It is basically a war on Aboriginal culture. The dispossession of the
