* NT GOVERNMENT'S DRAFT UPDATE TO ITS ENGLISH IN SCHOOLS POLICY:

- Audio Interview

The Wire: NT’s English in schools policy quashed bilingual 'creative enclaves'
http://www.thewire.org.au/storyDetail.aspx?ID=8484
26 Sep 11: "The Northern Territory has released a draft update to its controversial policy on language in schools. In 2009 the Territory introduced a compulsory 'first 4 hours in English' policy. The new policy has signaled that the territory government isn’t backing down on its emphasis on English, and one expert says that the policy removes any possibility of indigenous literacy programs running in school time. Dr Brian Devlin is a bilingual education expert from Charles Darwin University. He says that the territory’s policies have quashed important creative enclaves where indigenous staff and indigenous artists had become central to the education of young children in their communities. ...

* PLAN TO TRUCK NUCLEAR WASTE THROUGH SA ON WAY TO NT:

- Media Release

Friends of the Earth Australia:
Martin Ferguson misleads SA on nuclear dump
http://www.foe.org.au/anti-nuclear/media/news-items/2011/martin-ferguson...
28 Sep 11: "Federal resources minister Martin Ferguson's mishandling of the contentious plan to truck nuclear waste through SA to a dump site in the NT reached a new low with his misleading comments on ABC Riverland radio this morning.
Mr Ferguson claimed that no decision had been made on a dump site. However he is pushing the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill (NRWMB) through Parliament. The Bill targets Muckaty in the NT as the only site under active consideration for a dump site despite the fact that Muckaty Traditional Owners are challenging the nomination in the Federal Court, and despite NT legislation banning the imposition of a nuclear dump."

The waste could be trucked directly from the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor southwest of Sydney to the proposed dump near Tennant Creek. But a report commissioned by the Federal Government advises sending the waste through SA "would avoid the emotive movement of waste through the Blue Mountains"."

Our Generation - Showing in London - page 8
http://www.asgmwp.net/ElimattaWinter2011.pdf
Winter 2011: "The Intervention is yet another example of the appalling treatment the Aboriginal People of Australia have been subjected to in such a short period of time compared to thousands of years of survival. Sinem Saban and Rev. Dr Gondarra supported by the Yolngu people and cinematographer, Damien Curtis, have created a sensitive and realistic view of the plight of those who wish to live a more traditional life in their homelands and of those who appear to be dispossessed." Christine Waterer

Summer 2010: "Local resident and journalist, Jeff McMullen introduced "Our Generation", the film by Sinem Saban and Damien Curtis which we were there to see. The film explored in depth the Federal Government Intervention into Aboriginal Communities in the Northern Territory. Jeff had told us that the film’s producers were not having any success in having the film shown on government or commercial media outlets and they were having to screen it in local community halls to show the community at large just what was involved in the Intervention. It is basically a war on Aboriginal culture. The dispossession of the
Aboriginal people is simply continuing in a new guise." Carol Gerrard

“Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”

"Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were involved in campaigning for, and drafting, the Declaration "
Commissioner Gooda said.

This is “ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT” !!

There is a lot of "Public", “Condemnation” and “Ridicule” of these so called, “Government Appointees” by the “Aboriginal Victim Industry” ( AVI ) "When it Suits them".
This does not seem to be the case with "Mick Gooda".
Or his predecessor, Tom Calma.
This "Declaration" was Showcased, Floated, Displayed, Lobbied for and "In Essence", "Flogged" !!
Mainly to the “Converted” or, fellow AVI.
The drafts of the “Declaration” would have been done by a lot of African, American and Asian Delegates. People that come from some Well Documented, Terrible Living Conditions. To a large extent,"These" are the People that the "Declaration" and Principles would have been Conceived, Agreed to and Produced for. "Not" with "Us" in mind. So it would Hardly be Likely that we could have made or had "Any Influence Whatsoever" !! This so called “Campaining" for, and "Drafting” of, was no more than a "AVI" PR Exercise !! There would have been "Nothing" that “Needed “ to be "Changed". Or "Altered" !!.They would have had everything covered !! Experts !! They had years to do it !! And with at least, some of the Best Brains "Out of Africa" !! The African Countries have never taken us seriously. All the years that we have been going over to the UN complaining, “Not One” has ever backed or supported us. Or seen to be. And it is not likely to change. These people going over there complaining of Income Management, "Many hundreds of Millions" of people from these African Countries, and Others, don't even know what an Income is !! With “Ten Billion Dollars” a year “Allocated to Aboriginal Affairs”. That's more than the GNP of Most of these Countries !! These other “Delegates” or their Advisors, they would be aware of this !! Five Hundred dollars ( $500 ) a fortnight minimum here, to every Black-fella in Australia !!

This "New Set of Rules", this "Declaration", the “Aboriginal Elite” or, "Neo- Mission Managers”, are seeking to Force and to Impose it upon, not only us "Other Black-fellas", but the “Whole Country” !!
The "Aboriginal Elite" are seeking to “Hijack” the Aboriginal Agenda.

I'm gonna have a break "now" !! Really !!
I've done enough for a while !! Bloody Hell !!. Give me a break !! I don't get paid to do this !!

Education.(2)

“The study of English enables students to make sense of, and to enrich, their lives in personal, social and professional situations and to deal effectively with change. Students develop a strong sense of themselves as autonomous, reflective and creative learners". ( This makes Sense. Limited English is not only Detrimental but can be Dangerous !! )

Tiga Bayles places a lot of emphasis on "It's Magic" ( his term ) When English is the second or even third Language of Aboriginal Students. What if a Student dies because they couldn't communicate very well in English ? There is no doubt that this happens and has in the past. Would that child's brothers and sisters or parents think it Magic or Magical !? As director of the “Murri School” does his View and Attitude take precedence ? Do they impact on the Curriculum. ? Education is Critical. A Specialist's Domain !! And English is Obviously, Crucial. What Qualifies Tiga Bayles as a “Director”of a School !? Well there is No Point in asking Chris Sarra or Stephen Hagan !! They Obviously Don't Want to Go There !! I'm Jacky Jacky !? I know Nothing !?

Education (3)

Wherever there is any chance of an education or when education is an option, allmost everyone would try to take advantage of it whenever possible and engage their children. There was a series of shows on TV a few weeks ago about India and the successes of the Indigenous peoples of different cultures. The divide between the rich and the poor was obvious. But the one thing they all had in common, was the Desire and the Focus on Education. The poorest people worked hard and all day for a very meager wage. Something like about two dollars ( US$2 ) a day. Yet they had no hesitation in spending this money on getting their children to learn the Magic Language, ENGLISH.
With
No Mention or Discussion of Cultural Appropriateness.
No mention or Discussion of Second or Third Languages.
Nothing of Bi-Lingual Education.

Education 3 ( a )

My Aunt, an academic, teaches Aboriginal languages that nobody speaks any-more !! ( uni job of course!! and to Aboriginals, of Course!! ) With the very high rate of Aboriginal People going to and will be going to hospital ( as I have been ! ) ENGLISH IS CRUCIAL!! OR DIE !! Why encourage languages that doctors don't understand !! These Bloody Aboriginal Academics !! They are Dangerous in Their Ignorance !! ( and getting well paid !! ) As Amanda Vandstone observed, it's more about feeling good than doing good !!
The Feel Good Industry? ( FGI )
