The Australian: James Price Point no loss-maker: Barnett
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/mining-energy/james-price-point...
26 Sep 13: "WEST Australian Premier Colin Barnett claims the Woodside Petroleum-led Browse liquefied natural gas project would still have generated healthy profits if it had been built at James Price Point in the Kimberley. Mr Barnett said he believed the venture's controversial decision to build the project using floating LNG technology -- a move he opposes -- would be cheaper than an onshore plant, but there was not a huge difference in the economics of the two development options." Andrew Burrell

25 Sep 13: "WEST Australian Premier Colin Barnett has warned Woodside Petroleum it may be unable to sell billions of dollars worth of gas from its planned Browse project because he will refuse to allow his state's share of the huge gas resource to be developed using floating LNG technology." Andrew Burrell

ABC Indigenous: James Price Point traditional owners await Woodside funds

19 Sep 13: "Woodside is preparing to pay the remaining millions of dollars it owes to the traditional owners of James Price Point. When setting up its gas hub project, Woodside agreed to deliver a benefits package to the Jabirr Jabirr Goolarabooloo people. The project has since been scrapped but parts of the initial benefits package are still to be paid."

19 Sep 13: "The indigenous leader who negotiated Woodside Petroleum Ltd's spiked $1.5 billion native title deal in the Kimberley says indigenous people are being condemned to poverty while the gas company seeks bigger shareholder returns, The Australian reports. According to the newspaper, former head of the Kimberley Land Council Wayne Bergmann said it was "incomprehensible" that Woodside withdrew from the deal to pay benefits to Kimberley indigenous groups in exchange for use of the land at James Price Point."

19 Sep 13: "THE indigenous leader who brokered Woodside Petroleum's aborted $1.5 billion native title deal in the Kimberley says Aborigines are being condemned to live in poverty while the gas giant chases bigger returns for shareholders and high-profile environmentalists retreat to their "beautiful houses in Sydney". Wayne Bergmann, the former head of the Kimberley Land Council, said it was "incomprehensible" that Woodside had last week abandoned the 2011 native title deal, saying the benefits package would have been life-changing for Aboriginal people." 18 Sep 13: "Incoming Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane wants to have a "frank" private discussion with Colin Barnett to get the multibillion- dollar Browse liquefied natural gas project hurried along. In an interview with The West Australian on the eve of his swearing-in today, Mr Macfarlane confirmed that WA would get a slice of the royalties if the Woodside-led consortium's preference for floating LNG technology proceeded. The Australian: Plenty of losers as green activists get in the way
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/opinion/editorials/plenty-of-losers-as-g...
19 Sep 13: "THE decision by Woodside Petroleum to formally withdraw from an agreement with traditional owners in the Kimberley is a sad result, especially for local indigenous people, Western Australia and, possibly, the environment. The Perth-based company had struck a landmark native title agreement, including a benefits package worth $1.5 billion over 30 years, with the Goolarabooloo and Jabirr Jabirr group. Woodside's original proposal was to build a gas plant at James Price Point, north of Broome, as part of its Browse liquefied natural gas development."

Offshore: Australia LNG projects advance despite escalating costs

18 Sep 13: "A public row has erupted Down Under between local elected officials, most prominently WA Premier Colin Barnett, and proponents of floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) technology as a development solution for the west's vast offshore gas resources. The backdrop: skyrocketing labor and construction costs, coupled with new competition with likely future LNG exports from North America and East Africa that could derail several planned LNG developments, along with the new onshore liquefaction plants and the jobs they would bring."
