20 Sep 13: "Two years ago, as part of my academic research into the prevalence of suicides in Australia, particularly among Aboriginal youth, to my horror I discovered that Aboriginal youth suicides are tragically at record high levels – that spates of Aboriginal youth suicides are proportionately the world’s highest rates. Aboriginal youth is suiciding at the world’s highest rates. I should not be shocked but I was despite my first-hand knowledge of the continuous neglect by Australian Governments - State, Territory and Federal - of Aboriginal peoples." 20 Sep 13: "The R U OK campaign was on the 12 September, creating awareness about depression in Australia. However, a group of young 12 Indigenous people gathered together and shared a passion to combat depression for Indigenous young people between the age of 14 and 18. Some of the factors this population sector gets more depressed are substance abuse, social exclusion, and discrimination. The Facebook group has more than 800 likes and the group will re-launch the campaign in Sydney. ...

In front of Parliament House in Darwin on Monday, they declared their intention to fight family violence by entreating other men to tackle the problem. "Aboriginal men have been disenfranchised since colonisation," said Deputy CEO of the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, Des Rogers. ... " AAP
