Court judgment questions jurisdiction over Aborigines
http://treatyrepublic.net/content/court-judgment-questions-jurisdiction-...
2 Oct 11: " ... The District Court matter arose as a result of an appeal in the Magistrate's Court in Deniliquin by Ms Nicholson-Kitchener. I prepared arguments in the original Magistrate's Court in this matter, arguing unceded Aboriginal sovereignty and questioning jurisdiction.
In the written submission in the Magistrate's Court I argued that given Mabo judgement No. 2, which implied that Aboriginal sovereignty is continuing, then this is a matter for another jurisdiction, i.e. the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
I contend that if we have a situation of contested sovereignty, which is implied in the Mabo judgement No. 2, then legal jurisdiction over Aboriginal people is in question. ... "

http://ears2theground.wordpress.com/2011/10/02/constitutional-change-nee...
2 Oct 11: "An expert panel set up by the Australian Government to gage public support for the constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians, will spend the next few months finalising its recommendations. Although 75 percent of Australians already support some kind of constitutional reform, ideas on the practical effects that constitutional change would bring to the human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are more contested, with some commentators noting the disparity between existing legislation and the realities of government policies such as the Northern Territory Intervention, ... PressTV: Australian Aboriginals suffer from NTI
http://presstv.com/detail/202718.html
4 Oct 11: "Australian Aboriginal peoples are still suffering from the ongoing Northern Territory Intervention (NTI), an indigenous policy by the government which has been heavily criticized by the UN. The NTI is a package of legislation, targeted directly at Aboriginal peoples but passed without adequate consultation with those people. The legislation restricts and removes a range of human rights with the purported aims of improving development outcomes and protecting children from abuse."

1 Oct 11: "If Woodside, the Premier of Western Australia Colin Barnett and the Minister for Resources and Energy Martin Ferguson, wanted a fight over the Browse gas hub on the Kimberley coast, they've got it. It shouldn't have come to this, given the commercial rationale behind the $30 billion project is decidedly shaky and Woodside, enough analysts say, has plenty of balls in the air already amid constant takeover speculation, cost blow-outs at Pluto and delicate negotiations ahead over the Sunrise project in East Timor." Gidgee Healing has operated in Mount Isa for several years and is highly regarded within the community. The Independent Education Union, which represents Catholic and independent school teachers, said the new curriculum should include more about Aboriginal people and the Stolen Generations,. National Indigenous Times: Slur was not from us

5 Oct 11: "The racial slur against West Australian MP, Carol Martin and other Indigenous leaders was the work of one person and it was not condoned by any of the traditional owners or Indigenous Australians opposed to the gas hub project planned for Broome. Ms Martin, Kimberley Land Council leaders, Wayne Bergmann and Nolan Hunter and former Australian of the Year, Professor Patrick Dodson were racially vilified when they were labelled "coconuts" in a newsletter that was distributed in Broome."

Our Generation - Showing in London - page 8

Winter 2011: "The Intervention is yet another example of the appalling treatment the Aboriginal People of Australia have been subjected to in such a short period of time compared to thousands of years of survival. Sinem Saban and Rev. Dr Gondarra supported by the Yolngu people and cinematographer, Damien Curtis, have created a sensitive and realistic view of the plight of those who wish to live a more traditional life in their homelands and of those who appear to be dispossessed." Christine Waterer

ASG Information Night: Our Generation - page 6

Summer 2010: "Local resident and journalist, Jeff McMullen introduced "Our Generation", the film by Sinem Saban and Damien Curtis which we were there to see. The film explored in depth the Federal Government Intervention into Aboriginal Communities in the Northern Territory. Jeff had told us that the film’s producers were not having any success in having the film shown on government or commercial media outlets and they were having to screen it in local community halls to show the community at large just what was involved in the Intervention. It is basically a war on Aboriginal culture. The dispossession of the Aboriginal people is simply continuing in a new guise." Carol Gerrard
