Report back from The NT: Gurindji Freedom Day and Muckaty waste dump tour
[scroll down page] http://stoptheintervention.org/
"Monday 19th September 6pm
Level 1, Federation House, 23-33 Mary Street Surry Hills
all welcome! At this special STICS meeting, activists Natalie Wasley and Paddy Gibson will report back from a recent month-long trip to the NT. They will show footage and discuss activities in the Gurindji communities of Kalkaringi and Daguragu to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the famous Walk-Off from Wave Hill station. The commemorations condemned the NT Intervention and were followed by a strike by community workers over racist treatment and deteriorating conditions. After a presentation from anti-Intervention campaigners, a full council meeting of the Central Land Council at Kalkaringi voted to support 'Rebuilding from the Ground Up: An Alternative to the NT Intervention' and upcoming protest actions.
Nat and Paddy will also give an update on the fight against the nuclear waste dump planned for Muckaty near Tennant Creek. In August they accompanied a group of union officials on a tour to see the proposed site and meet with traditional owners fighting the dump proposal. The tour has opened up good opportunities for strong campaign activity with supportive unions. Come along to see new footage and hear inspiring stories of communities resisting racism in the NT!"

Summer 2010: "Local resident and journalist, Jeff McMullen introduced "Our Generation", the film by Sinem Saban and Damien Curtis which we were there to see. The film explored in depth the Federal Government Intervention into Aboriginal Communities in the Northern Territory. Jeff had told us that the film’s producers were not having any success in having the film shown on government or commercial media outlets and they were having to screen it in local community halls to show the community at large just what was involved in the Intervention. It is basically a war on Aboriginal culture. The dispossession of the Aboriginal people is simply continuing in a new guise." Carol Gerrard

SBS Living Black: NT Intervention: what's next?
http://www.sbs.com.au/shows/livingblack/blog/single/ID/124875/NT-Interve...
15 Sep 11: "Video journalist Richard Davis visited Central Australia to hear from Aboriginal people on the 'new intervention'. The Northern Territory intervention is running out of time. It’s due to expire mid next year and the Gillard Government is trying to work out what to replace it with. ... Every person I interviewed had a different take on the intervention. Some fiercely opposed every aspect of it, while others could see some benefits. ... there’s almost unanimous agreement that this time around people need to be properly consulted."
National Indigenous Times: Learn from mistakes of Intervention to improve outcomes

15 Sep 11: "National advocacy organisation, ANTaR has called on both major political parties to learn from the international development experience and work with Aboriginal people to plan the transition from Intervention to sustainable futures. The call comes in its submission on the future of Northern Territory Aboriginal communities released last week. ANTaR National Director, Jacqueline Phillips, said with Government consultations on the future of the Northern Territory Intervention drawing to a close and key Intervention measures due to expire in June next year, Australia was now at a critical policy and funding juncture. Phillips said from this point on the language and style of Intervention must be abandoned."

15 Sep 11: "The Federal Government’s Strategic Review of Indigenous Expenditure report highlighted the real issue facing Indigenous Australians was the failure of government to actively involve and listen to Indigenous Australians, Queensland activist, Sam Watson said.
Mr Watson said successive governments, both Federal, State and Territory, had allowed an entire industry that supported and sustained largely white Australian bureaucrats at the expense of achieving real and meaningful outcomes for Indigenous Australians."

"Aboriginal Elite" are seeking to “Hijack” the Aboriginal Agenda
“Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”
"Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were involved in campaigning for, and drafting, the Declaration " Commissioner Gooda said.
This is “ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT” !!
There is a lot of “Condemnation” and “Ridicule” of these so called, “Government Appointees” by the “Aboriginal Victim Industry” ( AVI ) when it “Suits” them.
This does not seem to be the case with Mick Gooda or his predecessor Tom Calma.( !? )
It was Showcased, Floated, Displayed, Lobbied for and "In Essence", "Flogged" !! This "Declaration". Mainly to the “Converted” or, fellow AVI.
The drafts of the “Declaration” would have been done by a lot of African, South American and Asian Delegates. People that come from some Well Documented, Terrible Living Conditions. To a large extent,"These" are the People that the "Declaration" and Principles would have been Conceived, Agreed to and Produced for. "Not" with "Us" in mind. So it would Hardly be Likely that we could have made or had "Any Influence Whatsoever" !! This so called “Campaining" for and "Drafting” of was no more than PR Exercise !! There would have been "Nothing" that “Needed “ to be "Changed". Or "Altered" !!.They would have had everything covered !! Experts !! They had years to do it !! And with at least, some of the Best Brains "Out of Africa" !! The African Countries have never taken us seriously. All the years that we have been going over to the UN complaining, “Not One” has ever backed or supported us. Or seen to be. And it is not likely to change. These people going over there complaining of Income Management, "Many hundreds of Millions" of people from these African Countries, and Others, don't even know what an Income is !! With “Ten Billion Dollars” a year “Allocated to Aboriginal Affairs”. That's more than the GNP of Most of these Countries !! These other “Delegates” or their Advisors, they would be aware of this !! Five Hundred dollars ( $500 ) a fortnight minimum here, to every Black-fella in Australia !!
This "New Set of Rules", this "Declaration",
the “Aboriginal Elite” or, "Neo- Mission Managers”, are seeking to Force and to Impose it upon, not only us "Other Black-fellas", but the “Whole Country” !!
The "Aboriginal Elite" are seeking to “Hijack” the Aboriginal Agenda.
