The Case of Income Management by Eva Cox
http://www.jumbunna.uts.edu.au/researchareas/journals/specialissue.html
This special issue examines the many reports, submissions and research projects that influenced or, more importantly, failed to influence the Government's decisions on income management policy. The evidence in this issue can be used to lobby for policies that will work
post the Intervention and for teaching examples of good and bad policy making. The publication demonstrates the serious lack of evidence for the benefits of income management. This finding questions why the Federal Government is continuing and extending compulsory and so called voluntary income management. Please download and distribute the document.

It’s been interesting these past few weeks to watch the Murdoch media whip itself up into a feeding frenzy over allegations of starving and malnourished children in South Australia’s APY lands. "Compulsory income management for Aboriginal people discriminates and disempowers individuals and leaves them with insufficient resources to manage their own lives," said PHAA Vice President Vanessa Lee.
"Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin recently stated that the Federal Government is considering three models of voluntary and compulsory income management in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of South Australia. Income management initiatives
currently in place in other states are being monitored and evaluation has not been completed - an assessment is due early in the New Year. PHAA strongly opposes the blanket roll out of a compulsory scheme," said Ms Lee."
