New Matilda: The Freedom Rides: Celebrating the Status Quo?
https://newmatilda.com//2015/02/23/freedom-rides-celebrating-status-quo
23 Feb 15: "The more things change, the more they stay the same. Particularly if you live in Moree, writes Kelly Briggs. ... The fact is, current of racism that ran through the town in 1965 still exists today. Only it now exists in an underground, more subtle way through non employment of Aboriginal people, uncomfortable feelings in certain shops, extreme racial profiling by police and law enforcement officers and white flight from certain areas. ... The poverty, racism, ill health and poor education system still exist today." By Kelly Briggs

Green Left: Freedom Rides again. Has anything changed?
https://www.greenleft.org.au/node/58339
21 Feb 15: "A busload of students, Aboriginal activists and musicians embarked on a commemorative trip around regional New South Wales on February 19 to mark 50 years since the first Freedom Ride. ... This year there has been renewed efforts for Aboriginal rights and land rights. Tent embassies in Canberra and Redfern are withstanding constant attacks from the government and police. The ongoing NT intervention and numerous attacks on the Racial Discrimination Act by federal politicians make the Freedom Rides just as relevant today as they were in 1965." By Jemma Nott

myGC: What next for Freedom Ride and bringing change to Indigenous Australia?
http://www.mygc.com.au/news/what-next-for-freedom-ride-and-bringing-chan...
23 Feb 15: "It began as a re-enactment of the past but it soon became obvious that what started 50 years ago was far from being finished. And to truly honour the past would require more than a trip down memory lane, it required definitive action – including entering communities to listen and report - just as Perkins and the student cohort had done. We also found the people we were listening to had not been heard from for a long time."

The Guardian: The day the Freedom Riders gatecrashed the Bowraville cinema with a colour bar
http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/feb/22/the-day-the-freedo...
http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/series/freedom-ride-50-years-on
22 Feb 15: "Ann Edwards recalls the day 50 years ago when her hero, the Freedom Ride leader Charles Perkins, came to town, with his first stop being the racially segregated picture theatre ... On Saturday a 50th anniversary re-enactment of what was later dubbed the Freedom Ride, brought a group of original riders, members of Perkins’ family and a new generation of students from the university to Bowraville, in Gumbaynggir country. The following is an address by Ann Edwards, one of the traditional owners of Gumbaynggir and a "proud Aboriginal woman"."

Linksunten Indymedia: Fifty years on, Freedom Ride again holds up a mirror to white Australia
https://linksunten.indymedia.org/en/node/135555
22 Feb 15: "The four-day anniversary bus run took the demonstrators to the New South Wales western outback towns of Dubbo, Walgett and Moree, the Mid North Coast hinterland town Bowraville and the coastal town of Kempsey. There was shocking racism in all of them in 1965. The two-week bus ride put Indigenous rights into the national spotlight. "I think it was a rude awakening for some of the students," said the NSW Aboriginal Land Council's Roy Ah-see. "Today's re-enactment would...bring back a lot of memories for them.""
