Statement read out on the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court steps by one of the Boycott Israel 19

Statement read by Jerome Small - one of the Defend the Boycott Israel 19 on May 1st outside the Melbourne Magistrates Court, on the first day of their trial.

Our first task is to acknowledge that where we are standing right now is stolen land, and that the Wurundjeri people and the Kulin nations have never surrendered this land, nor given up their sovereignty.

Our next task is to acknowledge the colossal, life and death struggle being waged as we speak by Palestinian prisoners inside the jails of Apartheid Israel.

Poking a Zionist Hornet's Nest: Defending the Right to Boycott Max Brenner

On Saturday 20th August, about 100 protestors crowded the King St footpath as they marched from the Newtown community centre passing inquisitive customers and shopkeepers while pressing Boycott Max Brenner leaflets into their hands for the four or five hundred metres to confront the Max Brenner shop while chanting with full force, “Max Brenner you can’t hide, you support genocide.”

“Arrests of Palestine solidarity activists must be condemned” says Geelong Trades Hall secretary

“Supporters of free speech and our right to protest must condemn today’s early morning arrests of Palestine solidarity activists,” said Tim Gooden, secretary of Geelong Trades Hall.

“Since being elected last November, the Baillieu government has begun cracking down on our right to protest.

MP Tanya Plibersek: Israel not so bad after all

Sydney Labor MP Tanya Plibersek does a backflip on Palestine in the wake of the stupid Marrickville boycott “debate”.

In 2002 the left wing member for Sydney was pretty clear about what she thought of the government of Israel.

She said: “I can think of a rogue state which consistently ignores UN resolutions whose ruler is a war criminal - it is called Israel and the war criminal is Ariel Sharon”.

She also said: “There have been criticisms of Israel's policies, but I don't think that's being anti-Israel”.

Videos of Adelaide actions (direct and otherwise) against Israeli apartheid

The Adelaide based organisation Action For Palestine and a number of other independent activists organised an action against the Israeli cosmetics company SEACRET. This action was taken as part of the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign which seeks to end Israel's apartheid policies against the Palestinians (see for more info).
