Ecuadorian Foreign Minister, Ricordo Patino, has confirmed that UK police have threatened to invade the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and arrest Julian Assange. This would be an unprecedented and scandalous violation of international law.
Ecuador is expected to announce its decision on Assange’s asylum application tonight (10pm AEST, Thursday 16 August). Even if it is granted, UK authorities have made it clear they will still try to arrest Assange.

August 5 Sydney: banners dropped in solidarity with Toronto G20 Prisoners

On August 5 some anarchists dropped two banners from the Cahill expressway bridge outside the Canadian consulate. The action was in response to a call for August 5 solidarity actions for Kelly Rose Pflug-Back, an anarchist hostage of the Canadian state, recently sentenced to 15 months in prison for her resistance to the 2010 Toronto G20. The banners read:

'EVERY PRISONER IS A POLITICAL PRISONER'

'FREE KELLY ROSE PFLUG-BACK'

People smugglers they are not, lawful and heroes instead - we have to change the language

Gerry Georgatos
The misappropriation of language and abuse of semantics in reference to ‘perceived people smugglers’ has to begin to change so we do not further erode compassion, and continue to skew the moral compass, bend and circumvent the rule of law- domestic and international.

What's more important? The Queen's discontent or ten million Congolese dead and counting?

You cannot claim a moral compass if it is skewed and bent.

Our news media is crucial to our national consciousness, and to our children's form and content. An Australia-wide lead news item was the Queen's alleged discontent at honeymoon photos of her grandson being published.

However the news media makes just about zero mention of the 10 million Congolese who have been killed since 1996. Many of you will think, "10 million Congolese murdered? That's genocide, how wouldn't we know about this? This is more than 12 times the genocidal deaths in Rwanda during 1994.
