The Stringer: Homeless camp raided - City of Perth in disgrace, once again
http://thestringer.com.au/homeless-camp-raided-city-of-perth-in-disgrace...
26 Mar 15: "Matargarup was raided again today by 50 police officers who escorted City of Perth workers and other hired personnel. The City of Perth loaded onto trucks tents, swags, bedding, linen, and other daily essentials. Ultimately, the City of Perth’s councillors and the Lord Mayor stand shamed. It is their watch. They have done ever so little for the city’s homeless. Indeed, their watch has led their response to homelessness to a deficit position. Those present at the time of the raid on Matargarup were 20 women, most of them elderly. ... " By Gerry Georgatos, a life-long human rights and social justice campaigner, a multi-award winning investigative journalist

"I was there and I was angered and demonstratively frustrated by the City of Perth's cruel conduct. I have spent a lifetime working with the vulnerable, with the homeless and in finding housing for the homeless. The Stringer’s Jennifer Kaeshagen was there as the raid occurred. Ms Kaeshagen coordinates the grassroots First Nations Homelessness Project. Ms Kaeshagen has been securing safe shelter and housing for homeless families and individuals. ... " Gerry Georgatos

The Stringer: Help the First Nations Homelessness Project - help Matargarup refugee camp - help the homeless
http://thestringer.com.au/help-the-first-nations-homelessness-project-he...
19 Mar 15: "Many First Peoples have had enough - and they set up Matargarup (Heirisson Island) refugee camp. It has become a vital place of refuge, respite for the homeless and symbolic of the dispossessed who will come to Perth with nowhere else to go, other than Matargarup, if their homelands are cruelly closed. Matargarup established itself peacefully, civilly and with dignity. They took in the poor, the homeless, and cared for them. Gave them a swag, a tent, food and camaraderie." By Gerry Georgatos

The Stringer: Refugee camp thanks its founders with corroborree
http://thestringer.com.au/refugee-camp-thanks-its-founders-with-corrobor...
9 Mar 15: " ... another Embassy celebrated its first week with a corroborree. At Matargarup, an island on the Swan River, in the heart of Perth, Nyungahs/Bibbelmun, Yamatjis, Wongi and others established a united Embassy and a ‘refugee camp’. They set up the ‘refugee camp’ for Western Australia’s increasingly homeless First Peoples and for all those who will be made homeless once remote communities - homelands - are closed down by the State Government. The Aboriginal Tent Embassy refugee camp at Matargarup has grown to 30 tents and 100 campers. ... " By Gerry Georgatos

The Stringer: In the heart of Perth, Aboriginal Tent Embassy and a refugee camp
http://thestringer.com.au/in-the-heart-of-perth-aboriginal-tent-embassy-...
2 Mar 15: "The 23 clans of the Nyungah/Bibbulman peoples of the southwest of Western Australia comprise the largest population of the descendants of First Peoples on this continent – more than 40,000. On Sunday, they re-established Nyungah Aboriginal Tent Embassy at Matargarup (Heirisson Island) in the heart of Perth. They declared it a place of refuge for all their homeless and "in addition as a refugee camp for all those who will be dispossessed and displaced from their homelands throughout this State by the Government."" The Stringer: Jennifer Kaeshagen sets up The First Nations Homelessness Project
http://thestringer.com.au/jennifer-kaeshagen-sets-up-the-first-nations-h...
22 Feb 15: "The Stringer is not just your average news site. Founded by Jennifer Kaeshagen, The Stringer coordinates advocacy in addition to its news reporting, features and opining. Ms Kaeshagen early this year made a personal commitment to attempt to house over the course of 2015 one hundred First Nations people experiencing homelessness in Perth, Western Australia. Without delay she launched The First Nations Homelessness Project. On track to housing 100 people, seven weeks into this year she has found homes for 12 people. A 52 year old gentleman was today found accommodation, becoming the 12th person housed this year by Ms Kaeshagen. Ms Kaeshagen whipped up a social media campaign, put the alert out through networks. ... " By Gerry Georgatos
