http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/attorneygeneral-alerted-as-redfern-tent-embass...
11 Jul 15: "Nearly 14 months have passed since Redfern's Aboriginal tent embassy was founded on the Block and, with a reprieve of at least another five weeks, its supporters are not leaving without a fight. Flanked by Kaye Bellear, whose late husband Bob was a founder of the 1970s movement to secure the Block for Aboriginal people, Ms Munro strode into the Supreme Court to chants of "Always was, always will be Aboriginal land". ... Green Left: AHC takes Redfern Tent Embassy to court for trespass

4 Jul 15: "Redfern Aboriginal Tent Embassy (RATE) has led a successful occupation of the Redfern Block for more than a year, calling for affordable Aboriginal housing to be built on the site. ... In the 1960s and ’70s the Block became a focal point for the modern day urban land rights movement. Protests led to grassroots organisations such as the Aboriginal legal, medical cultural and housing services. The Block has political and cultural significance for Aboriginal people, and Wiradjuri elder Jenny Munro and RATE have led a courageous fight to resist attempts to gentrify and ethnically cleanse the area. “Aboriginal housing on the Block must come first and last,” said Munro. ... About GLW - the need for alternative media
https://www.greenleft.org.au/about
"In these days of growing media concentration, Green Left Weekly is a proudly independent voice committed to human and civil rights, global peace and environmental sustainability, democracy and equality. By printing the news and ideas the mainstream media won't, Green Left Weekly exposes the lies and distortions of the power brokers and helps us to better understand the world around us. Green Left Weekly, launched in 1990 by progressive activists to present the views excluded by the big business media, is now Australia's leading source of local, national and international news, analysis, and discussion and debate to strengthen the anti-capitalist movements. It is both a hard copy and online publication. ... "

"Congratulations once again to Green Left Weekly. As I've often said to people all over the world when they ask what the press is like in Australia, 'Mostly owned by Murdoch and mostly unfree'. But I always add quickly, 'There is one newspaper that is independent of powerful interests and that's Green Left Weekly'." John Pilger

1 Mar 15: "The Redfern Aboriginal Tent Embassy (RATE) is working hard to defend its right to stay at its current location following being served with an eviction notice from the Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC) on February 20. The eviction orders mobilised a number of supporters and media to defend the site during the past week. So far, AHC head Mick Mundine has not called in police to shut the embassy down. Aboriginal activist Jenny Munro, a founder of RATE, offered to meet with the AHC on February 23. But the arranged meeting was cancelled by Mundine with the excuse that "too much media" were present. ... " By Rachel Evans & Jemma Nott, Sydney
