Brisbane Blacks: G20 Brisbane 2014
http://brisbaneblacks.com/g20/
" ... The Brisbane Aboriginal Sovereign Embassy will be boycotting the G20 Summit, which will be taking place on stolen aboriginal land. We want decolonisation to be recognised as a priority and added to the agenda as a political reality. Decolonisation is a process for all Australians and provides a chance for all who live on this land to build a new society based on Aboriginal culture and values; a society ruled by social need and environmental sustainability, not one of greed and discrimination. A unique society with a definitive system of laws and customs to govern it, based on the world’s oldest living culture. Musgrave Park has been declared a zone for peaceful protest during the G20 Summit. ... "

Brisbane Times: Wayne Wharton calls for 'conversation' between black and white Australia
http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/brisbane-g20/wayne-wharton-ca...
16 Nov 14: "It is time black Australia began "a conversation" with white Australia, says indigenous leader Wayne Wharton. "You have the ability to take this to the next step," the spokesman for the Brisbane Aboriginal Sovereign Embassy in Musgrave Park told almost 2000 protesters resting at the site after this weekend's People's March. Mr Wharton said during the 1970s and 1980s Aboriginal people saw the establishment of land rights and self management of their communities." Tony Moore, brisbanetimes.com.au senior reporter

"He refers to this country as desolate [prior to the arrival of the first fleet]," activist Wayne Wharton said. "He welcomes the world leaders and tells them there was nothing. 14 Nov 14: "In the presence of British Prime Minister David Cameron, Abbott doubled down on previous remarks about the unsettled nature of Australia before white invasion. Amy McQuire reports. 24 Nov 14: " ... Abbott described Australia prior to the landing of the First Fleet as:
"… nothing but bush … the Marines, and the convicts and the sailors … must have thought they’d come almost to the Moon…. Everything would have seemed so extraordinarily basic and raw…"
This was not a one-off PM 'brain-snap' because once again he denied the importance of the oldest continuing living culture in the world by claiming that Britain began:
"... foreign investment … [in] the then unsettled or, um, scarcely settled, Great South Land…"
along with:
"… the First Fleet was the defining moment in the history of this continent."
These statements are indicative of the constant dismissal of anything Aboriginal in this country. Clearly PM Abbott's total disregard is an absolute insult and a smack in the face for the Recognise campaign which is trying to raise support for a referendum to include Aboriginal people in the racist Constitution, we have never been part of. ... Australian Greens: PM Abbott wrong again on European settlement
http://greens.org.au/node/6526
14 Nov 14: "The Australian Greens said today that Tony Abbott continues to send mixed messages about European settlement of Australia. "During today's address to an infrastructure breakfast with UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Tony Abbott has echoed his comments from earlier this year that Australia was 'unsettled' before the British arrived," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues said today. "The Prime Minister's ‘nothing but bush' comments once again ignore the fact that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been in Australia for many tens of thousands of years, and that British settlement began a process of discrimination and dispossession. ... The Stringer: Pearson, Langton, Mundine are not our leaders
http://thestringer.com.au/pearson-langton-mundine-are-not-our-leaders-9078
15 Nov 14: " ... Australia’s so called "Aboriginal leaders" such as Professor Langton, Noel Pearson and Warren Mundine have no followers in our grass root communities. They demonstrate no foresight into the future or any real vision of hope for our communities. Instead they approach the issues with punitive, uncaring politics that only raises their profile in the White community with no consideration to collective responsibility or community obligation within our Black communities. ... " By Dr Woolombi Waters, a Kamilaroi language speaker and writer and is a lecturer at Griffith University. He writes a weekly column for the National Indigenous Times.

19 Feb 13: "Dr Woolombi Waters is a Kamilaroi Aboriginal man with six children. His PhD "Contemporary Urban Indigenous 'Dreamings': interaction, engagement and creative practice," documents surviving Kamilaroi epistemologies essential to cultural maintenance and trans-generational pedagogy. ... My writing engineers a hypothetical cultural and creative third space in reinventing the Indigenous position beyond its current binary - in wanting to picture events over time and space around me, in returning to the past and seeing my future, to remember the sound of ceremony before the impending silence broken by colonisation."
